Bracketology

Not that this has any hold whatsoever, but the ESPN bracketology currently has us as a 12 seed playing 5 seed Penn State in Bowling Green. I would personally love that matchup and would definitely try to make it in for that weekend of games.

If something like that happens, you will see orange everywhere as some of the participating teams will not sell all their tickets most likely.
That would be a great opportunity for us and a super item for MAC women's bball history. The Stroh is a perfect venue for that round.
Especially if we're in it
Go Falcons!

It's also the first time Charlie has had BG winning the automatic bid. Until this week, he had Miami pegged. Nice to finally start seeing some recognition for what BG has done this year with such a young roster.

I'm 99% confident that the MAC representative in the NCAA tourney will be playing in BG for the first/second rounds.

Hey CCollin13 -- not true. Charlie Creme had us in his bracketology earlier in year...it was only this past "version" that he had Miami in the MAC spot. All of his earlier renditions DID have BG listed.

Maybe I looked at a different bracketology, but I know I saw Miami the last week and at least once early in the season, probably in November-December. I don't make a habit of checking every week, but I don't remember ever seeing BG, and I've looked at it more than once. In the women's tournament, host teams are guaranteed to play on their home court, regardless of seed. This is the first time I've even seen the MAC team listed in Bowling Green; they've always been a different region (maybe Nashville?). If I trust my memory, that would mean BG hadn't been "predicted" to win.
But it's your memory against mine, and it's not important. My comment was only intended to point out that nobody expected us to get this far and have a shot at the championship, but we have. Go BG.

I expect BG to have a shot at the MAC every year, in women's bball that is. The men, well we won't discuss that. But ESPN always list the conference leader for its Bracketology. It had Miami listed for the longest time because they were first place. And in case of ties they then go by RPI, but until last week our RPI was over 100 where Miami was in 70s, so once again they were listed. Now that we are in first we will be listed in every bracket, unless we fall out of first place.

I don't see BG rising above an 11 seed even if we win out. The committee hasn't been kind to us in recent years. We were 28-4 in 2009 and set an NCAA record for most wins in a season to not make the tournament. We were 24-7 in 2008 and didn't even get looked at. In the case of this year, we haven't beaten a team with a winning record out of conference all year, and our SOS is above 200. I know that Curt and Co. did that on purpose with a young team and it was definitely the right move, but it doesn't help us when it comes to making a case for the tournament.
Had we beaten Purdue in the 2nd game of the year instead of losing, things would be MUCH different. That would've given us a win over a ranked opponent and we'd only have two defeats. Our RPI would probably be 15-20 places higher right now had we come out with a W in that matchup.
That being said, this season has been a pleasant and happy surprise. The team has played well all year, and for them to be in this position it really speaks volumes of how hard they've worked and how well-coached they are. Jessica Slagle is my heroine. For her to step up in her senior year into such a prominent role and to play as well as she has is just amazing. I remember talking with her on the floor after a game in 2009, and she had such a personality too! Alexis Rogers's coming on board has been another huge factor in this team not skipping a beat after losing Prochaska and company.
I'm unhappy in the sense that this team could go 16-0 in the MAC and still get shut out of the NCAA's, because they deserve so much better than that.

And what also may HURT us is that if we do win our division and are the #1 or #2 seed we automatically go to the semi finals because of the new format. Were before we play in the quarters and gives us another win. We are not an at large team, even if we run the table. We are not even receiving any votes in either poll. Of the mid majors we are 8th. 9 more straight wins and we are dancing again.

Just a cute note: Charlie has us matched up against Georgia Tech in this week's bracketology. Of course the tournament is so far away, but I'm pretty sure that's a team BG never wants to see again
And, BG has received a singleton vote in the AP poll this week. Coaches' poll has yet to be released. Also interesting to note, fellow Mid-Major powerhouse St. Bonaventure moved into the poll at number 24. Maybe it has something to do with that assistant coach over there who once led a mid-major to a national ranking...

Also, an interesting article by Creme proposing a "Bracketbusters" for the women's side, and matchups he would love to see:

I've been wondering how, with our record and historical track record, we were getting absolutely no votes in any polls.

We got a vote today in the AP poll...we are tied for 38th with West Virginia.

Interesting match-up Charlie Creme has. BG/Georgia Tech. The likelihood of that happening is really small. I do not think the Women's basketball committee would pair the 2 of us up again, especially since we just played each other last year in the NCAA. But I don't think he bothers to remember what the match-ups were last season. The games and who is going where will change a bunch of times more before the selection show in March. If I remember correctly, the year we went to the Sweet Sixteen, the sites and who we we were predicted to play changed multilple times. I don't think he ever had us playing in East Lansing in the 1st/2nd rounds. He is just trying to put a bracket together.
You know what? I don't really care yet. There is a lot of season left to play. One game at a time is the team's mantra. I buy into that too. Let's take care of ourselves first. Winning will solve everything. GO BG. Go Falcons. Together we attack.

I think the MAC tourney will be very interesting this year. I see 4 schools (BG, CMU, UT, EMU) that seem pretty equal all around and would represent the conference well in the NCAAs. Plus, Akron, Ohio, Miami, perhaps Kent could easily upended one of these teams. Toledo may have the most depth but their lack of a go- to type person in crunch time probably means a return to the WNIT
