And Dustin thinks........

And Dustin thinks nothing serious could happen that we need security on the floor at BG. Well Dustin, it wasn't a sporting event but look what happened today in Chardon, Ohio. School shooting seriously injures 5. Chardon is a very quiet town. My wife's family lives there. My wife went to high school there. Very nice quiet school district. Nice quiet town. They never for once could see this coming. So this is why we have security at games.

Northern Illinois is in the MAC and it happened on their campus five years ago.
Just heard that one of the students in the Chardon incident has passed away. Thoughts and prayers to the families of the student and to our BGSU students that are from the area.

Not that I would ever really want to stand up for Dustin, but this strikes me as a tad harsh and off base. After all, no roided up security guard can stop a bullet.

I was more so pointing out that bad stuff can happen when you least expect it. Did Cincinnati think there would be a brawl at the end of their game. Did the Palace think their would be a brawl during the middle of their games. Did Va Tech, twice, Kent State, Northern Illinois, foresee any tragic shootings. Did Germain Fitch wake up thinking a fan would jump on his back causing a season ending injury. While security can't prevent certain actions it can help and I am all for security at sporting events. For Dustin, or anyone else to think BG don't need to have security at their games because nothing will ever happen at BG because its a quiet community is ridiculous. Numerous years ago Chardon was listed as the top town in Ohio in regards to crime and in the Top 20 safest cities to live in. You can never be to safe. More security the better, even at sporting events.

I, too, was wondering how the security was going to protect themselves, let alone the crowd. Point taken, gmartin, crazy people show up anywhere and metal detectors are not out of line in this day and age to get into an event.
I never will understand mob mentality at and after sporting events. Seems like win or lose, some people think it's their job to go out and damage things.

PLEASE...everyone, it's ChaRdon, NOT ChaNdon. And r is nowhere NEAR the n on a keyboard.
Okay, correction: please, gmartin - - NOT everyone.

True the N is nowhere near the R on the keyboard but its called autocorrect.
I know its ChaRdon, but my IPhone likes ChaNdon.
My wife grew up in Chardon. My sister in law teaches there. Sorry I didn't catch autocorrect.

That's what you get for using an Apple product.
Oh, and was I the only one confused that the subject said "And Dustin thinks.........". I was pretty sure he didn't, so I was completely confounded.

Very bad taste to open up a thread about the Chardon shooting by going after Dustin. Apples to oranges. If somebody wants to take a person or people out with a loaded weapon, there really isn't much you can do about it.
Prayers and thoughts for all of the victims and their families.

I also disagree using a tragedy involving kids to show a fallacy in another person.

I wasnt putting down Dustin or the community of Chardon. I was simply pointing out a tragedy can happen anywhere, even in the Safest Community to Live in Ohio and a once Top #20 city with the fewest crime. Dustin stated that BG is over protective and we don't need security on the field. In my opinion you can't have enough security, even if its a sporting event. I won't comment anymore but if people think 'nothing will ever happen here' then they are wrong. Tragic events can happen anywhere, yes, even at BG. In fact, just a few years ago a girl was taken at gun point at 5/3 bank with a bank robber and put in a car going over 100mph.

How did they get her in the car if it was going over 100mph?

That part is well said Mr. Martin. This site isn't needed for these topics. Let's talk Falcon Sports! Go BG beat Miami!
