BG women are two wins away in Cleveland from going to the NCAA Tournament and playing in what should be a sold out Stroh Center. However, if BG does fail to make the NCAA they are guaranteed to play in the NIT because they are regular season champs. With the record BG will have, plus our average attendance and possibly past history you would figure BG would host a first round game. My question is, with BG being a host school for the NCAA, and the NIT games played usually a day before or between 1st and 2nd rounds of the NCAA would BG even be able to host an NIT game. I would assume Anderson Arena is no longer an option. Personally I like our draw in Cleveland. More than likely we will play Miami or CMU in the semis. Miami and CMU are much better home teams and BG plays well in Cleveland. We also wouldn't face UT or EMU until the championship game. So I am predicting an NCAA bid but was just wondering if not, would we still be able to host an NIT game.

Anderson Arena is not an option. Our final home Gymnastics meet is Saturday, March 17 (4:00 PM against Eastern Michigan).
From what I understand, once the final HS basketball game is played on March 16, the NCAA will take control of the Stroh Center and it will virtually be locked down. No one will be admitted into the building until game day unless they have the appropriate credentials (which will be tough to obtain).

There's a nice sign for the NCAA games flashing on the electric billboard at the corner of 24 and Erie Street, the main entrance to downtown Toledo. Stroh appears in big letters although if one didn't already know what the event was it would be hard to find out- the NCAA thing is tiny and the flash isn't very long. For those folks likely to buy tickets though, its a nice reminder.

So since the Stroh is in lockkdown I assume if BG didn't make the big dance and had to play in the NIT they would have to play on the road. That stinks. I was thinking that may have been the case. I believe it was last year or two years ago U of M had to play its home game on EMU campus because of tournament issues. But win the next two and we don't need to worry about this.

gmartin - Make your hotel reservations for Saturday and join us at 4:00 PM in Anderson Arena for the gymnastics meet. It's Senior Day (and it gives you a chance to get back into the old gal). After the meet, check-in to the hotel, call The Oasis [(419) 352-FOOD] for dinner (awesome menu).
Then on Sunday, you can join us at the Stroh Center for the BG Women's Basketball game in the NCAA tourney - I believe since we are the host that we get the second game of the day (Game times are 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM on Sunday and 7:00 PM on Tuesday).

I don't think first round games are Sunday. That would be the same time as the round of 32 on the mens side. The games should be Mon, Wed or Tues, Thur. I will be down in Columbus at Nationwide Friday and Sunday for the men's tournament.

The first round NCAA games at BG are Sunday March 18. The women's first/second round games are Saturday/Monday or Sunday/Tuesday. They certainly are the same time as the men's It is a problem but one that has been going on for the last 5-7 years. When we play in the first round it will be on Sunday March 18.

Thanks falconwomen. I was thinking of a few years ago of the Monday game we had, but that was in the 2nd round. Would love to be playing on a Tuesday this year. Maybe I can sell my Sunday Men's NCAA game for Columbus region. Maybe I could give them to a Falcon AZZ member that lives near CBus.
