EMU women lose by 32 points to South Carolina 80-48 in the first round of the NCAAs today.
Begs the questions:
1. Did MAC send the best team? Maybe BG, Toledo or CMU had better chance to compete?
2. Did BG catch a break not making it this year because our young team could have been embarrased too?

EMU shot 27%. Anyone would lose with that rate of making baskets. SC DID lock down on Tavelyn - - she only had 11 points. The opposing head coach said "cut off the head, and the rest will fall."
Quite true, in this case.

BG would have played at home, on a court where they nearly beat Purdue just a couple games into the season. But anything can happen, just wish we'd have gotten the chance.
On the other hand, if BG gets in, there's no way Baylor is playing at the Stroh this weekend, and with it, the attention it will bring to BGSU. Still would've been nice to be in the dance, but there's a bit of an upside to not making it this year.

The worst thing about that game result is that it will probably dissuade the committee from giving the MAC any at-large bids should any teams be worthy of one next year...which is a fairly likely possibility with BG, CMU, and Toledo all supposed to be better than they were this year.

Old news
NORMAL, Ill. - A three-pointer by Illinois State with 18 seconds left to play sealed a first-round WNIT win over Central Michigan, 69-68, on Thursday night. ...
I'm not disappointed. Anyone else?
Coach is quoted as saying, "This is the second game in a row that free throws have just done us in. With a young team like this, they have to understand the importance of one free throw." I have to agree with her there.
