Re: Miller to IU
If this does happen, we all knew it may happen one day. IU is getting one hell of a coach and the rest of the Big Ten should consider themselves on notice of the ass kicking to come! Hopefully we will retain one or more of the current staff. I think Jennifer Roos is ready to be a head coach. Anyway, if this does come to be, good luck Coach Miller. And thank you for your dedication to BGSU Women's Basketball.

Re: Miller to IU
I know Coach Miller has been rumored in the past to other schools. I am surprised it is IU. IU's program has been bad. If anyone could turn them around it would be him. Good luck to Coach Miller. Thank you for building a power her at BG.

Re: Miller to IU
What else can we say, but that it was bound to happen sometime....only surprise was that IU still went after Curt even considering the "mild" stroke this year. I wish the best to Curt Miller and only hope that BG can come up with a coach who'll continue the level of excellence we've become accustomed to over the past 8 yrs.
Wonder which assistants he might take with him? Hard to imagine him NOT taking a couple along at least, considering their longevity in the program. Is Jen Roos a logical successor?

Just a thought, but would Kate be interested in coming back to be an asst. at BG?

Roos is better than Miller
Let's take a look at things -
Jen has a 1.000 winning percentage (that's PERFECT)
Curt only has 0.737 winning percentage.

I think it will be a few days before we know who the new coach will be. Definitely Jen is in the hunt, but I think to be fair to her, we need to give her a few days to think things over before we rush for GC's throat and ask why it's taking so long.
Remember, there are only two other coaching staffs in the country that have been together longer than this staff.
Jen is my first choice. Mulkey would be second. Gail Goestenkors is also available if Jen decides to follow the new IU coach to Bloomington (picked that up from the Rockette board when Beckman left
).
I remember Curt speaking when he was first introduced as head coach and he spoke about his "five year plan". I laughed because every coach has a five year plan. Damn if he didn't accomplish his in only four years! What a ride! Thanks Curt.

Re: Miller to IU
“This is a bittersweet moment that we knew would come eventually,” said BGSU Director of Athletics Greg Christopher. “Curt transformed women’s basketball here at Bowling Green. As much as our department and the community will miss him, we are also thrilled for Curt as he takes this new challenge.
Maybe you should have ponied up some money and pay him what he is worth to THE ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT and COMMUNITY as you say. Hard to believe the best performing coach in the department just walked away. Is there something that BG could have offered him to stay? Or was it having to put all your marbles into one basket by winning two games on a neutral court after going 24 - 3 (approximate), which then gets discredited if you lose one of those two games. Going 26 - 4 (approximate) every year and not even getting looked at for at-large bids played a role in this somewhere.

Re: Miller to IU
Ya know, the assistant coach's pay at IU probably pays more that the HC job at BG. I won't be surprised if he takes the entire staff with him.

Re: Miller to IU
Based on the compensation package for IU's outgoing coach, Felisha Legette-Jack, she was making $260,000 a year (IU has to pay her $780,000 to pay out the final three years of her deal). A quick Googling shows Miller signed an extension in Sept. '09 to make about $160K a year. I'm thinking when the numbers come out for his IU deal, they will likely approach double that figure. I hate seeing coaches take the money and run as much as the next guy, but taking at least a $100K raise into a position where 24-7 (after almost a decade of dominant league championships) puts you in the NCAA as an at-large 4 seed, not hoping to host a WNIT game, is a pretty easy call to make.
But yeah, let's pin it on GC.
Thank you Coach Miller for all you've done with and for BGSU. Good luck down the road!

BTW I collect Mickey Mouse stuff. One year I got a MM birthday cake with Mickey in an airplane. The quote was something like "it was such a swell ride while it lasted"
Yep, Thanks Coach Miller for a swell ride.
Good Luck at IU. I think you left us in good stead.

Re: Miller to IU
I'll bet he is offered $475-500K per year. So I can't blame him for heading west. There is absolutely no way that BG could offer him that amount of money (because unfalconbelievable is a tightwad and won't provide GC the money necessary to keep CurtTG1996 wrote:Based on the compensation package for IU's outgoing coach, Felisha Legette-Jack, she was making $260,000 a year (IU has to pay her $780,000 to pay out the final three years of her deal). Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't IU have a decent track and field program? If I recall, the two boys have been having some success at distance running. This could be an opportunity that works for the ENTIRE family, and not just Curt.

I bet IU has a secretary for the WBB program, too.
