Great win for the Falcons! One of the concerns I've had this year is that when we have a great defensive first half, the second half, many times will do a flip-flop. How many times have we held our opponent to under 20 points in the first half, only to see them double it (or more) in the 2nd half. Granted, there are halftime adjustments, momentum factors, cold spells, and fatigue in the 2nd half. But I sort of look at things like this.... we won the first half by 19 and lost the 2nd half by 8. Any time there's that much of a swing from the 1st half to the 2nd, I want to examine the cause of the discrepancy. Is it turnovers, scoring dry spells, defensive lapses, lessened intensity, or a combination of all of the above? I've witnessed several times this season when we have let sizeable leads get whittled away or lost altogether. I'm just glad we built up a large enough lead yesterday at the half to enable us to leave with a good victory! I'm not complaining, because we got a win. But all I'm hoping to see is for the girls to take it to the opposition for forty minutes straight, and we will succeed! Best of luck to the Falcons this week against the Zips! I know what you're saying, HoopsFan, but that 19-point halftime lead was NOT a substitute-free half. We have a very capable bench, even as banged up as we are. There are times when our bench outplays our starters, in fact. Every blown lead cannot always be blamed on the bench. I wasn't referring to the "one" basket that would have beaten Western, but I was pointing out a tendency we have of not being able to put a team away once we get a good lead. Central Florida and Akron were good examples. Hopefully, this clarifies things a bit.
