There was a release about Coach Roos attending a professional development event called the "Center for Coaching Excellence" organized by the WBCA. They were quite proud of their association with Columbia University, mentioning it several times with quotes from their athletic director about the program.

Out of curiosity I checked the history of women's basketball at Columbia, figuring it would be replete with winning records and championship seasons after such wonderful professional development. It was quite the contrary:

Columbia Women's Basketball All-Time Records (Since 1984-85) Year Overall Ivy League Head Coach
1984-85 (Division III) 19-7 --- Nancy Kalafus
1985-86 (Division III) 21-6 --- Nancy Kalafus

2010-11 7-21 Paul Nixon
2011-12 3-25 Paul Nixon
2012-2013 5-23 Paul Nixon

I'm guessing that "capitalizing on the resources of Columbia University" is a euphamism for "a free trip to NYC" for the distinguished panelists and participants.

My guess is they probably wanted to hold it in New York for a number of reasons -- non-stop flights; Broadway; world-class restaurants; etc.

Columbia was a good choice for that.

Sure, it's just funny how Columbia get roped into it when it's clearly a junket. I don't remember Pat Summitt crediting her success in the profession to the Chicken l'orange at Le Bernardin.

How about:

Center for NCAA Compliance, joint sessions at the University of Miami and University of Southern California
Center for Incident Reporting, Pennsylvania State University
Center for Gambling Prevention, University of Toledo
Center for Positive Coaching, Rutgers University
Center for Fan Decorum, Ohio State University
Center for Travel Expense Reduction, University of Hawaii
Center for Secularism, University of Notre Dame

Center for Exposing and Eliminating Corruption, a joint effort of Auburn, Mississippi State, Alabama, Ole Miss, and Ohio State with potential future collaboration from Oregon and LSU.
