BG is ranked 31st this week in the Coaches poll.
Nice to receive the recognition this team deserves.

We received seven votes this week in the Coaches Poll.

BG is ranked #2 in ESPN's mid-major rankings. I'm assuming Saint Mary's will be moving up in the next edition of the list. They decimated Toledo recently and are 7-0 so far. Good picture for the article!

If we win all games up until the Purdue match up and beat Purdue BG will be ranked before the conference starts.

I completely agree with that gmartin. BG has already beaten a pair of B1G opponents on the road in Michigan and Ohio State, and if you ask me, Iona and Butler were two pretty solid away wins as well. (Realtimerpi.com agrees, as both are in the top 90 of the RPI). Our one loss was to Marist, a perennial mid-major powerhouse who also happens to be in the top 30 of the RPI at the moment despite their record.
You add a victory over Purdue into that mix, and you've got what is likely an NCAA worthy resume unless you screw it up in conference play.

This indeed is a nice start. There is alot of basketball to play before we even get into conference play though. With the type of system that BG runs which relys on good shooting, one off night and you get a loss. Fortunately, we shoot well more often than not. But if you look back at our losses over the past few years, we usually do not shoot well. I know - you could almost say this about any team. Well look at the Marist loss - same # of rebounds and T.O. for each team. BG shot 37.3%, 36.7%, and 41.7% from field, 3-point line, and free throw line respectively. Marist was 47.9%, 45.5%, and 78.3%. Not going to win many games shooting those percentages. We just need to keep winning and then concentrate on a very competitive MAC this year. Everything else will take care of itself.

If you shoot 42% from the foul line, that's NOT going to get it done. That stat more than any other sticks out like a sore thumb. It's one thing to have a bad shooting night from the field, but there's no excuse for shooting that poorly at the line.
