Akron had to play on the Boilermaker's home floor. Glad it wasn't us.

Well this is what happens when you end up sending your third best team to the big dance. Not saying that bg or cmu would have won, but given those teams' talent and greater experience, the game wouldn't have been a walk like it was against the Zips.

Actually, I wish it
WAS us. Definitely not saying we would have won, but we played Purdue on their home floor this season, and lost by 9 (and I'm pretty sure it was a 2-point game with under 2 minutes to go). Maybe Purdue would have beaten us 84-55 on Saturday, but I would've liked the opportunity to find out.

Never mind the fact that if bg was in tournament, we wouldn't have ended up seeded 13th...we would've been 10th or 11th and had an easier opponent too.
The NCAA committee clearly wanted to make the Mac look bad by not putting bg or cmu in, and making Akron play on the road. The fix was in. Screw em.

Why's that? A lot of people seem to think BG had the game there for the taking at Purdue in December.

When is the MAC going to stop playing along and do the smart thing where the NCAA is concerned?
STOP GIVING THE AUTOMATIC SEED TO THE TOURNAMENT WINNER!!!
Whoever wins the regular season title should be the automatic seed in both men's and women's hoops. Period. It pretty much guarantees you have your best team representing the conference, instead of having a lesser team about half the time -- while the better team plays in the NIT or not at all.
Mid Majors and especially the MAC do not benefit from giving away their tournament seed during an otherwise meaningless post-season tourney. Reward the team that has fought through several months to be the best in the conference and be proud to have that team represent you. The money from the tournament cannot be worth this stupidity.
And if it is, then hold it but don't give the winner anything more than a trophy.

I agree wholeheartedly about giving the Regular Season Champ the automatic bid. Winning the conference over 2+ months vs a few days makes sense to me. We had one piss poor game all year....against Ball State in the tourney and it bit us in the ass. The Akron Beacon Journal was nauseating the last two weeks saying the Zips were the best team in the MAC > WRONG. We swept Akron and won the regular season title. When BG beat them 77-76, the writers kept harping on "Two very questionable calls against the Zips in the last minute that gave BG breaks". Bullshit. What happened the other 39 minutes of the game? I realize the Beacon is selling papers in Akron and not BG but dammit, we own this conference and have for a long time. And guess what? Akron will lose 5 SR's this year to graduation and almost 70 of the 82 ppg they average. Tecca and Luburgh average 44 ppg for just the two of them. Throw in Cassell at 6.5pg and Young at 9pg and they have a major rebuilding project coming.
