How do they determine the host team?

Bidding. I talked to Kingston and he basically said that you bid for a game before it starts and can modify it by the attendance during the game. Later I heard that we had help in bidding the Bona game as it was more than the ticket receipts. I'm not sure how much but it was maybe twice the gate.
It seems to me that the last time we did the 3 WNIT's they said it was at a loss, but who knows?

If it's a loss to host these games then so be it. Just like sending the football team, which earned the right to play another game, to a far off bowl which the fans don't travel to and buy tickets. This has the advantage of bringing a little business to town and rewarding the fans with more home games. Best of all this is a great reward for the team and their efforts. No better way to spend money on a successful program than hosting several NIT games in the Stroh in my opinion whether we lose money or not.

+1. The whole "lose money" argument is incredibly short-sighted. Even if true, it's the tiniest of investments to grow the women's basketball program, grow the athletic department and ultimately grow the university. From a marketing standpoint, hosting a game helps us advance to the semi's and the finals which will presumably be on TV, exposing the university to however many thousands of people watch or read about that game.
We're a state funded university in Ohio just like any other. Why does it take the generosity of a donor to get our compensation for coaches up to par with those in our own conference? Why is the athletic department operating budget millions lower than our supposed "peer" institutions? There needs to be a structural change starting at the very highest levels of the university to get that fixed.

Uh oh. Good thing I didn't post the rumored amount
I don't think it's a conspiracy, just cheapskates. When the men got a benefactor, the funding of mens basketball probably dropped, leaving mo' money for the football, hockey, womens basketball and non-revenue sports. I could insert some snarky comment about the Northwestern unionization deal here but that's a different thread.
Anyway, as long as we keep winning, I'd love to see us keep hosting, but there I go preaching to the choir.

This will be our last home game of the NIT tournament. The other teams in the tournament are averaging a higher attendance rate and more than likely will get the bid for the rest of the way. One of the teams is averaging over 4,500 per game. Even Indiana is playing on the road in the quarterfinals and they had over 3,300 last night. So please come out and support this team on Monday night. As it may be the last home game of the year

Attendance is NOT the determingfactor. It is my understanding from a VERY good source, that you bid on the number of tickets you sell, and not attendance. In other words, a "benefactor" or the school could buy any amount of tickets to increase the bid to insure a home game.

But the problem is we can only sell up to 4280 tickets, as that is our capacity. The other schools are already selling more tickets because they have a larger arena. Even if a benefactor buys all of our tickets, I still don't think that will be enough. Regardless, come out and support this team on Monday if you can

Mississippi State is hosting USF. If BG wins they would play the winner of that game. Mississippi State had 1809 in attendance their last game and USF had 1231.
Why would you make a statement like that, without looking it up?

You know better than using actual facts when posting. Shame on you.

speaking of buying up seats...the upper part of section 115 was "sold out" early for last night's game. not one seat available at ticketmaster, well in advance of game day.
but the upper section was mostly empty during the game.
an hour after vs. rutgers tickets went on sale this morning, same thing. got three excellent seats in section 102, but nothing available anywhere in 115.
'benefactor' at work? or does ticketmaster just suck?

Section 115 is Anderson Club seating.
Probably have to go through the BGSU Ticket Office for those.

Wow. Is C Vivian on drugs?

Her opening statement isn't very coherent. Clearly she views the WNIT as second rate. Yeah, lady, but those are the cards dealt you.
