Falcons losing by 12 last I looked...would be a KSUsweep, which would have to go back to Bob Lindsey days I'd guess.

Overall a BAD DAY for Falcon basketball.... Let's hope the hockey team can salvage the weekend. [-o<

Lost to KSU 63-58. Cut the lead to 2., but had a couple of turnovers in last 30 sec. Or so. Had to foul and it almost worked. Credit to the ladies for fighting back, but just getting KILLED on the boards. #-o

After being an avid BGSU women's basketball fan for years, what we're seeing this year is very tough to watch, compared to what we're used to. With our multiple injuries and our youth, opposing teams are using our gals as the conference "whipping girl", glad to pay vengeance for the Falcons' dominance over the last decade or so. I whole-heartedly support the ladies and appreciate the all-out efforts they put forth on the floor every game. Our fans, myself included, love this team and will continue to offer the utmost encouragement to this team throughout the remainder of the season. On the other hand, I have formed my own opinions, right or wrong, based on what I've seen over the course of the season. First of all, Deb Hoekstra has been one of my favorite players for a long time, mainly because the Number 3 she wears on her jersey reminds me of Lindsey Goldsberry. There's a lot of similarities between the two, namely extreme hustle and quiet leadership. It pains me to say that Deborah is the only solid leadership we have on the floor. To me, leadership means having a player who wants the ball at crunch time. With so much youth on the floor, many times the basketball becomes a "hot potato", and we have far to many run-ins with an expiring shot clock. I believe the shot clock has become our enemy, and that we need to be looking for shots much earlier into each possession. We need someone else to step up and become a floor general, as well. I also believe that Kennedy Kirkpatrick is one of the most multi-talented players on the team. She has a quick and accurate shot release, plus when she drives to the basket, NO ONE is quick enough to stop her. Where many of our ladies are great shooters, Kennedy has the largest potential to be a great scorer, inside and out. I believe she is the one who should be anxious to have the ball in her hands. Rachel Myers, in my opinion, is another player destined for greatness. Please know that I am NOT being critical of our team, but I just want to give kudos to the players in whom I have seen lots of promise. Ladies, as always, I will be your fan, regardless of what happens, to the very end. Keep on keeping on! GO FALCONS!!!

I like your thinking :-) This team doesn't have the scorer's mentality of the Miller coached teams. Lauren Prochaska never missed an opportunity to take a shot, nor did Lex. Our shooters are an "excuse me" I think I'll throw up the ball because the shot clock is about to expire. Fatigue may be part of the reason for the style of play we're seeing. If you shoot quickly, you'll have to defend more.

I don't see many chances for victories, except possibly Miami for the rest of the season. What an ugly turn of events.

I hope everybody's rehab and the incoming class goes well for next year.

Go Falcons.

After all of those shots she took this past summer, you can tell Deb WANTS the ball.

Hopefully every member of the team goes into the gym this summer with her mentality.

As for Goldsberry, she is my favorite player from the Curt Miller era. What she did was with pure hustle, guts, and determination. The bruises on her knees and elbows were many. I think it was Allie Mann who said at the team banquet - her favorite thing about graduating was she would never have to face Goldsberry in practice again.

I have a slightly different view of Lex...she was a very talented player, but I think she hesitated to take over games on her own because that really wasn't her style of play....she had that deeply ingrained "team first" mentality. And I don't mean that as a criticism by any means. Donovan is more assertive and seems more willing to take control put things on her shoulders. we definitley miss that scorers mentality this year.

I think once she overcomes the mental challenges involved with the game and starts playing reflexively instead of thinking about every move before she makes it, Puk is going to be really good. Baer has a nice game for a post player, but I think she really needed a RS year to adjsut and grow physically.

What concerns me most about our players is the progressional growth of their individual abilities. More simply put, are they getting better? Generally, when an athlete gets more playing time, they attain better understanding of the game, the plays that are called, and recognizing the weaknesses of their opposition, along with learning how to exploit those weaknesses. They become more comfortable in their role with the team, and more confidence ensues. I prefer to see our girls play with the attitude of refusing to take what the opposition gives you, but instead, playing with enough fervor to force their own will upon THEM. Are we recruiting high school seniors who have reached the peak of their abilities, or are we landing extremely talented athletes with potential to reach all-conference status at the college Division I level, even before they become seniors? With all the extra minutes our young players are getting, due to all the injuries, we should see individual improvement, which then translates to TEAM improvement. As yet, I'm not seeing it. I know that injuries and fatigue are huge factors, but I firmly believe there are players who are capable of leading the team, but have yet to step forward. Once we take care of business on the floor once again, the wins will return and success will take care of itself.

Not exactly true about players gaining strength during the season, just experience. Abby is a good example. She was not very coordinated in her freshman year, but she must have worked hard during the summer both in the weight room and practicing. Sure, some of the freshman were on campus in July or August, but I don't think they understand the work required to become a good league player. We have had very few players come ready to play in their freshman year. Probably the last one was Lauren Prochaska, but the Sweet 16 era team (Mann, Honegger, and Thornburn) had some awesome frosh that played all 4 years.
