They're gonna have a total of four. Cecil, Jane Uecker from Akron St. V-St. M, Rion Thompson from Lima Senior and Clare Glowniak from Flushing, Mich. I'm guessing they didn't announce them today b/c of the football game & not wanting the release to get lost in the shuffle, or maybe not all of them returned their paperwork in time to send out the release today.

While there hasn't been an official release yet, all four are listed as signed in the game notes for this weekend's games

From today's presser, here's a factoid. Next year we are using all 15 scholarships. How's that for a change? That is probably a first in the last 15 years!

Claire Glowniak was named the 6th best player in Michigan by the Detroit Free Press in its Preseason Girls Basketball Preview in the December 4 edition. Flushing was also a top 20 team.

It looks like we have some good talent coming to the program, but my concern is with the players who are coming back from last season. Who are the upper classmen that have the talent, the experience, and the leadership to mentor the incoming freshmen? Regretfully, I can't think of anyone. To me, and I've stated this in previous posts, our success as a team relies heavily on the coaches' abilities to maximize player development. If every individual player on this roster is not showing significant progression in their basketball abilities from year to year, then the coaching staff is at fault. We've had a number of players on this team that have shown little or no improvement from one season to the next. This team cannot be competetive in Division I college basketball if we're playing at a level no higher than a decent high school team. Landing quality players is only half the battle, but I'm not confident that this coaching staff can turn this team into the well-oiled machines of the Curt Miller era. We shall see........

I was at the OHSAA girl's championship games this year. You should go. Good basketball but no comparison to MAC basketball at any level.

Maybe I missed something but what is your agenda? Players sometimes end up better than expected and many don't make the progress they should even with Curt Miller. They may have the physical attributes, the skill set and be good kids from great families but there are many intangibles. I will agree that sometimes programs need changes (not yet in BG but maybe eventually) although all I read in your post are a collection of insults to all involved in coaching the program. Sorry but every once in a while the crop of athletes don't work out as expected and BG has been very good for many years with some down years in between. It happens for nearly every program and that is what makes success even sweeter when it happens.

Yeah...fudd seems needlessly harsh. Weren't bad last year...we were mediocre maybe....I think we'll be better this year. Will it be enough to make us contenders again? we'll see...

First of all, I want to thank FalconTurf and Flipper for your honesty concerning my posts. I appreciate other points of view, as to how I come across to others on this blog. I agree that maybe I've been a little hard on the coaching staff, although I don't believe my posts are loaded with insults toward them. I love to see players that come from great families, who are top-notch students, have different skill sets, and are just great individuals. That's ALL very admirable. But I also love to see players who are great athletes, with multiple skill sets, who thrive on competition, who love the game, who have the heart to win, who want to be leaders, who are mentally and physically tough, who are motivated, and who have a desire to be the best they can be. Also, as a matter of fact, I DID watch the girls state tournament championship games on TV, and really enjoyed them. I have NO agenda. I do not have a vendetta against the coaching staff. When things aren't going well with an athletic program, especially over a period of time, then the buck usually stops at the top of the heap. If I have offended anyone because of the "harshness" of my opinions about the women's basketball program, I do apologize. I just want to be honest in my views, however some of what I say may not be received well by others. Thus, it is not my intention to be demeaning in any way to the players or the staff. But whether anyone agrees with my opinions about the program, or not, I still stand by those views wholeheartedly, right, wrong, or indifferent. I will call'em like I see'em! GO FALCONS!

To address a few of elmrfudd's points...

In terms of leading the team, etc., Syd Lambert is gonna be a stud. I think she might have held back a little bit this past year in the leadership area, but I think we're going to see her continue to blossom into a great player and a great leader.

As for the recruiting ... IIRC, a number of players left when Curt Miller left. Obviously, Kaila Hulls followed him to IU, but so did 2 or 3 recruits, including the McBride kid from Erie, Pa., who now starts for them. Another kid who had committed here went to Miami instead (& may have gone somewhere else), and there may be 1 or 2 more that I'm forgetting. The point is, the class that would now be entering their fourth year was decimated by the coaching change.

Also, we are all aware of how the injuries affected last year's (2014-15) team, and Donovan's departure six games into this past season certainly didn't help. I was hoping for more than 10 wins this past season, and I'm sure the players and coaches were, too, but I think there have been a few extenuating circumstances to help explain the struggles over the last season and a half. AND, I think this staff is the right staff to help us return to the top of the MAC.

I agree with you, threestooges, about Lambert. She has the shooting prowess of Pontius and the floor presence and quickness of Halfhill. She was a great catch. The thing I love about Sydney is that she has enough confidence in her abilities that she knows she can make things happen. She is not afraid to shoot the ball, and I like that. And for a freshman, that is admirable. I think that next year she will be more comfortable in her role as a team leader, and her stat sheet numbers will naturally rise.
I also believe that with so many players leaving, getting hurt, and various other goings on within the team, that it would be pretty difficult to bond as a family that would blend them together more as a unit. When players are deeply bonded together in their relationships with one another, that cohesiveness will be translated on the floor as well. And with all of the shuffling going on the last couple of seasons, I don't believe they were as tightly woven with one another as they could have been. Looking forward to watching the 2016-17 version of the "BGSU Falcon Family"!
