Women lose another to Ball State

Ya know, I think the coach ought to find different starters and a different offense. This team is pretty inept.

I'll post more later when I get the box score, but Miriam was 0 for whatever and 3 starters looked pathetic in the scoring column. There is no sense of urgency when the players just dribble the ball, almost like they're afraid to shoot.

Hate to say it but I believe Roos has lost this team. After all the injuries last year, and Ali Mann issue the year before and a player leaving the team this year can Roos turn this around and save her job. Three bad years in a row.

Well, I see that the MAC has renewed its contract with the Ohio Penitenuary System to provide referees for women's basketball games. The past three games have been among the worst I have seen in the past 35 years. The calls are so jaded and one sided, someone needs to investigate these criminals masquarading as referees.

Sadly, I agree. BG is out shot, out run, out defensed, out rebounded and out coached.

I agree with all of the above. After Miriam shot that airball three, she got gun shy. Our passing was atrocious, and we dribble the ball far too much. Players need to make crisp, clean passes, and break away from their defenders to get the ball. Excessive dribbling can mean two things..... players aren't getting open, and no one wants to shoot. I was glad to see Roos play man-to-man today, as I could tell Ball State did have trouble with it at times. But the Cardinals' passing was far superior to ours, giving them some easy shots. The officiating was once again lopsided against the Falcons for the third straight game. That was the best game out of the last three that we played. Again, Lambert continues to be impressive in her first year, although she had some passing woes late in the fourth quarter. I think if Puk is going to push with the bigs underneath, she needs to be more subtle in her physicality, which can be accomplished through more strength training. I think the rest of our post players could benefit from some extra weight lifting, as well. Tara Breske and Jill Stein are fine examples of strength under the basket. We don't have that. We did show some progress today, but we have a long way to go. I also agree with the post above stating that many players are not carrying their share offensively, especially a few starters. It's high time we assert ourselves, and do away with any timidity we exhibit on the floor. We need to be in the oppositions' face, on both ends of the court. Work hard Falcons. We're still behind you 100%. GO FALCONS!!

Three of the starters went 1-11. This is not unusual, it's a pattern. Isn't it time to find new starters? I'd like to see Santoro, Kirkpatrick, and Tunstall when she's healthy. I don't know how many times I can watch our 5'3' guard try to go inside. She's not quick and doesn't have a very consistent outside shot.

I agree, Hoopsfan, about the starters not being productive offensively. Kirkpatrick and Santoro are very capable scorers, as Kennedy has shown that she can drive to the hole effectively, practically at will. Santoro has a lot of all-around skills, along with floor knowledge, but she's still in the developing stages. I do believe that Puk or Baer should be starting in place of Tunstall, alongside Tibbs, as Puk offers a dual inside/outside threat, while I believe Baer to be more rebounding muscle underneath, though Abby nor Sarah are big scoring threats inside. Miriam is a very capable offensive threat, but she has had no game-to-game consistency for the past two seasons. I'm sensing perhaps she's lost some confidence in her shooting abilities. Myers also needs to look for more opportunities to score. Concerning the 5'3" point guard, she hasn't been getting NEAR the minutes she was earlier in the season, and rightfully so. Lambert's production, I believe, far outweighs the production of her counterpart many times over. Our girls must have the desire and the drive to put up some impressive numbers on the stat sheet. Are they capable? Absolutely! But the coaching needs to return to the elite status we had when Miller was here, where excellence was expected, then achieved. We are nowhere near that point. Best of luck against the Huskies next Wednesday, girls! We're all rooting for you! Talons up!

3 straight HOME losses after opening the MAC 1-0. Frustration is setting in.

I flipped between this game and the men's on the 3. This was a good effort against a pretty good BSU team. Santoro did some nice things, Puk had some quality minutes and Tibbs and Lambert were great. Puk needs to be playing SG or SF....she's overmatched trying to play inside.

Love to see what a Puk/Lambert guard combo could do for 30/35 minutes a night

I tend to agree; I'd like to see a little more of Puk. I think she played inside yesterday b/c of the injury to Tunstall & because Siefker was struggling & Tibbs got in some foul trouble. I think Puk's a preferable alternative to Baer and Cole right now; I don't really think either of them are quite ready for prime time just yet.

The team was a lot better yesterday than on Wednesday. I agree with others that it's been a frustrating season to this point, but hopefully things will start to click a little more. I think a big part of the problem right now is that several players seem to have lost confidence in their shot. I'd like to think that once they make one or two, they will make a bunch more. That might be wishful thinking on my part, but I am definitely not ready to give up on this team.

I don't believe Roos has lost this team, but whether she has or hasn't is a matter of personal opinion. What is NOT a matter of personal opinion, though, is the fact that it has NOT been three bad years in a row. It may feel like it's been three years, but it's been just over a year.

Two years ago, we won 30 games and went 17-1 in the MAC (you can look at the Ali Mann situation and consider it a 'bad' year because of that, but I would consider it just the opposite because of how well Coach Roos and the administration handled that situation. And, did I mention we won 30 games and went 17-1 in the MAC?).

Last year, we were 7-2 before all of the injuries in late December. This year, definitely, has been confusing and frustrating, because I thought we'd be better than we have shown, but I'm not ready to write off Coach Roos after one bad year.

Two years ago we had that record with Curt Miller's recruits that he had coached. We haven't won a MAC Tournament since 2011. Sadly I see no growth in Roo's junior class recruits. That is a concern.

I agree that it's a concern. Two of the three kids from that class have struggled this year, although I think Kirkpatrick has shown glimpses of good things. Coach Roos played a huge role in recruiting all of the kids that played on Miller's MAC title teams, so I think she knows what she's doing & I'm willing to give her a little more time. I'd be interested to know what this team's record would be if a fully-motivated Erica Donovan was still on the roster.

All good suggestions from posts still frustration at no growth

Puk played with shin splints most of last season was almost stopped by doctor
Kirkpatrick had hip surgery played 5 games as a freshman & is feeling best since she's been here right now
Justinger has feet problems or did, which affects her shot

Last year was full of injuries and we'll never know how this team would have done with Erica. Stop

Please you say BGSU Women's Basketball then refer to them as girls, that's high school and ladies.... you want tough women so give them their due.

I'm beyond tired of watching us play against 8 people. the women are frustrated and so are the coaches.

I'm off to watch them win at NIU. the place is a cavern and few people make this trip for support.

I still see them giving others fits. If I'm wrong after 18 games I'll say so until then I won't tell them how to coach, play or feel. I know what I want to see.

Have your resumes ready if it comes to pass and be ready for others coaching over your shoulder. I know all your facts and have seen it in person. Yes

I'm frustrated but I'm on the outside looking in, don't see it everyday. Just in there cheering which is all I can do....they hear it too.

It's obvious that Jennifer Roos was riding on Curt Miller's coattails. I don't even recognize this program. To say that the program is a shell of it's former self implies that there is still a structure of some sort still standing, and right now there is none.

What a mess. It's just so sad what has happened to BG women's basketball.
