WBI Tournament - Quarterfinal vs. Furman

Post by BillyLP »

The women's team is participating in the 8-team WBI Tournament and open against a solid team in Furman. It's not a bad group of teams and if they can win one or two it'll give them some nice experience and momentum going into the offseason. They play tomorrow at 12pm ET in Lexington, KY.

These extra periphery post season tournaments mens and womens basketball have are so silly. Basically if your .500 and your willing to pay money you get the invite.

I agree, but I actually think it is beneficial for this group to get in a couple more games to build for next season. They should contend for the MAC next season.

The ladies put a whoopin' on Furman today, winning 82-61. Velasco with a great complete game, and Morgan Sharps went for 22, which seems to be a career high. Madisen Parker also drained four threes. Overall they hit 16-33 3-pointers. Not going to lose too many games when you shoot like that. They'll play the winner of Saint Mary's and Austin Peay tomorrow afternoon.

Next game against St. Mary's. They are a team with a similar record to us but they are bigger and that is often where the ladies struggle. St. Marys also shot well over 50% in the win over Austin Peay. Game is tomorrow at 12:30PM

and BG lost by 9, 76-67. Too much size as I said on my pregame analysis. 6'2, 6'3, 6'4 7 Blocks and controlled the boards. Despite that BG hung well through 2 1/2 quarters and then a little run at the end which made St. Mary's reinsert starters. Also, St. Marys had a senior who scored 24.

Playing Nevada today in the 3rd place game at 5pm. Nevada is a really solid team and it's a little surprising they didn't make the WNIT (same with Cleveland State, who they lost to yesterday). They have some size but play in a style more similar to BG. It'll be a nice test for them to close out the season. I hope Fralick is also learning from the experience in what kind of personnel they need to compete in a national tournament.

BG wins the 3rd place game rather handily over a 20 win Nevada team 73-65. Led 90% of the game and was never in serious jeopardy in this one. Hempfling led the way with 19 and 6 assists. Brett and Tate were just shy of a double double. BG controlled the boards and was good at the foul line to keep the Wolfpack away. Nice overall season without Fleming and late transfer of #1 recruit. A lot of good experienced gained from these last 3 games against schools we have rarely if ever played against.
