Re: @KSU 2/11
We’ve missed 7 free throws through 3 quarters. If we lose, that’ll be a huge reason why. Too many missed opportunities at the line.
Also, Nyla Hampton is obviously a great player. Especially defensively - outstanding. But does it ever feel like the ball sticks in her hands once she gets it? I’ve been watching loosely today, but I feel like she doesn’t really pass the ball, just heads straight to the bucket. Fortunately, she’s pretty efficient and it normally falls. But I wonder how things would open up for her and for others if she would move the ball a bit more within the offense. Maybe that’s too critical for a pretty darn good player, but I would love to see her add that element to her game.

Phew. Escaped a sloppy, physical game against Kent. 75-69 with Brett and Day leading the way.
You’re not wrong about Hampton. She isn’t like that every game but today it was especially glaring that she was not distributing the ball.

And yet, she hit 2 clutch free throws to shut my dumb mouth up.
Battled hard, but a win on the road is always a great win.
22-2! Unreal.

I've only seen a couple games, but to my ameture eye, she's not a fluid ballhandler. Her attention is too much on the ball and not on the court. It leads to exactly the kind of head down tunnel vision talked about here.

A fair point. This is her first year as a true point guard at BG, with Fleming and Velasco handling those duties the last 2 years. Seems like her offensive role is to get us into the flow of the half court offense, more so than drive and dish.Diemilkweed wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 10:40 pm I've only seen a couple games, but to my ameture eye, she's not a fluid ballhandler. That said, she is leading the team in assists and I get the sense that she's REALLY close to making the jump from really good to great. All the tools ate there. Excited to see what she can accomplish the rest of this year and next.

Hampton leads the team in assists and is fourth in the MAC in Assists to turnover ratio. Nyla does an excellent job and is one of the many true leaders on the team. In my opinion, she has had an excellent year.Matty B wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 11:53 pmA fair point. Reading that she leads the team in assists kind of blows my mind after watching her play yesterday, but that’s impressive. No doubt, she’s an awesome player.
I guess she just had the bad luck of my half-otherwise occupied brain picking on her yesterday. I look forward to giving her credit for her passing in future games.

I was actually reminded of watching Pippen his first or 2nd year in the NBA. Very upright. ball too far out in front. Clearly paying a lot of attention to the ball and less to the rest of the court.Matty B wrote: ↑Sat Feb 11, 2023 11:53 pmA fair point. Obviously that turned out pretty well
And Nyla is already a better player than I ever was, by a mile. Maybe I just caught a couple awkward possessions or something. Maybe she'll dial in the handles and be UNREAL the next two years.
Well, on both sides of the ball since her defense is absurd already.

Re: @KSU 2/11
You also have to remember that teams make adjustments during the game. They were trying to take away the 3 pointer so that left getting the ball inside to Day and Sophie which we did and driving to the basket which Hampton is excellent at.Diemilkweed wrote: ↑Sun Feb 12, 2023 7:44 pmI was actually reminded of watching Pippen his first or 2nd year in the NBA.
