2023 Recruiting - The Chmiel Era

Post by BillyLP »

Coach Chmiel got what I believe to be his first commit yesterday in Taya Ellis, a 6'1 forward out of Toronto. Highlights are impressive. She can handle the ball and drive well, and is athletic enough to touch the rim. Feels like a direct replacement of Jocelyn Tate with a bit more height.

Saw a clip of her highlights. I think she looks solid! Has a shooting stroke and can finish at the rim with both hands. Has a little bit of ball handling in her. Can definitely see her developing into a good player here.

She looks very impressive...length and athleticism. Could see her being very effective on the wing

Seems like this was in regard to the assistant coach announcement of Maggie Lucas, along with the official announcement of Nick DiPillo.

Commitment from Paige Kohler. 1st Team All-Ohio and Cleveland area player of the year. Had been committed to Buffalo and held offers from Marshall, Wright State, and a host of Horizon and MAC schools. She's 5'8" and seems like a true PG. First two commits seem pretty solid!

If Kennedy Blair and Abbie Riddle stay on board...adding Kohler makes this a VERY strong guard class for 2023

Assuming Blair, Riddle, Ellis, McGuff and Kohler are in...we lost Meng and had Brett, Hampton and Tate Xfer. And with Day , Moore and Kadie graduating out....we have room for one? or maybe more?

Yeah, I was going to be really surprised if Blair stuck with us. She was a steal for BG and fits right in with Fralick's style.

Abbie Riddle is still coming to BG. She has already signed and did not request a release. Also, turns out she and the new commit are very close friends.

Fllipper, I said this a few years ago when Santro transferred and a freshman named Kennedy Williams also left after playing 29 of 30 games. It followed on the heels of losing Kennedy Kirkpatrick to N. Iowa after two years. Here's the quote and I believe it is still appropriate

"Here's my suggestion for future recruiting based on BG's most recent past. Unless you want your recruit to transfer early quit recruiting players with the first name Kennedy. " :)

We can sign them...keeping them is a whole different thing. :)

So...Ellis replaces Meng and Kohler replaces Blair. That means we have to replace Tate and Hampton at least....and maybe Brett?

McGuff comes in for next season as well so you could say she replaces one of those three
