vs. #1 South Carolina (12/19)
BG hosts the #1 team in the country tonight, the South Carolina Gamecocks (10-0). Should be an awesome crowd and a great environment.
I don’t expect to be competitive, but what an achievement to get a team like this to come to the Stroh. Awesome opportunity. Would love to get something like this on the men’s side, too.
If you’re going, enjoy it!

That's worth the price of admission itself. Kudos to USC for making the trip. Yes they are a juggernaut but as long as we play our tails off, I'm good. We are obviously a pretty BiG underdog. Will be watching on ESPN+.jpfalcon09 wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 3:32 pmCurt MIller will be in the house tonight.mbenecke wrote: ↑Tue Dec 19, 2023 1:19 pm BG hosts the #1 team in the country tonight, the South Carolina Gamecocks (10-0). This is going just about as expected.
Awesome crowd on hand, though. Happy to see that.

SC decided from the get go that Lexi wasn't going to get untracked. They played hard, but SC is the #1 in the country for a reason...they are deep and GOOD
It's not the fall that hurts...it's when you hit the ground.

I thought BG played a heck of a game. Even SC fans on Twitter were talking about how they have a tough test. This is a team that beat Clemson by 50, Maryland by 40. Presbyterian is 8-3 and they lost to SC 99-29. These tests are great for this team and we will be fine in the MAC.

It was a good thing that we didn't embarrass ourselves. I wish I had been there to see Fran and Curt get recognized. I take it that Lexi was frustrated, but I also think their front line was HUGE!
So now we go from the fire to the frying pan, so to speak. Go Falcons, beat Indiana!

Scheduling games against these kinds of programs will only serve to improve things at BG. Great recruiting tool too. BG played two schools this year in Iowa & SC that will in all likelihood be in the women's final four.
Dawn Staley with very kind words for BGSU and WBB.

Re: vs. #1 South Carolina (12/19)
I watched the first quarter, then went over the stat block. I think there were a lot of positives and not much in the way of negatives. They were essentially 3-6 inches taller than us at every position, that is going to create huge issues. But against that team, we had a positive assist to turnover ratio. We shot well from deep on high volume. We took more free throws than they did. We got outrebounded, but only by 7, and we shot poorly inside the arc. But again, see the size difference.
We didn't look out of place - they just looked better.
And all of that with 4 of last year's starters gone, 3 through transferring due to the coaching change.
If we look competent against Indiana, I will think this was a great recruiting non-conference season.

Re: vs. #1 South Carolina (12/19)
In the 4th quarter some may have noticed. BG wasn't throwing up the white flag and still playing hard. SC called a timeout after a loose ball/ hustle play with about 2 minutes left to play. Staley lit into two girls that probably don't start after that play. Up thirty and still has an edge to expect excellence. Loved it BG wasn't conceding anything. That's what it takes to win national titles for them. In our case MAC titles and NCAA appearances.
