I really thought BG would be the preseason favorites. We will just prove them wrong and come out and win the whole dang thing.

I agree....but it is so difficult to argue with CMU's success on the diamond. That team is ALWAYS loaded and has won 13 or 14 MAC titles compared to 3 for the runnerup school (I think NIU). Miami will be tough again as well.

Like ya said, we'll take the title again and shove it in their face!

I didn't. Even though they won the MAC Tourney, they were the last seed so had to upset every team they played to win. Also, they lost a great pitcher in Jody Johnson. I know they are good and good enough to repeat, but I wouldn't expect them placed as the preason favorite.

Good point Metz. I forgot about losing Johnson. But we do have Liz Vrable back and she is only a JR! We have only 1 SR on this year's team, Kristen Anderson. 4 JR's and the rest are Sophs and Frosh.

Lindsay Heimrich will still be a great back-up to Vrabel (notice the spelling  ) as well as Kristen Anderson. Hopefully Emily Gouge gets some time on the mound as a freshmen pitcher, too. I was going to say I've only seen Heimrich and Vrabel pitch but I have pictures I took of Anderson pitching so I guess I saw that as well. Just don't remember how well she did. Johnson will be a loss but I think we will be the suprise again this year.

My sister played D. 1 softball, so I'm curious to go to some games. One thing I did notice is that it looks like we don't have many power hitters or bigger players for the Suicide Corner. Correct me if I'm wrong, I'd like to get to know about the team.

"Suicide Corner" is a new term to me...want to fill me in with what that means?! Anyways, Gina Rango would be our biggest power hitter. Just go check out her bio and read what she did last season! She's an incredible player. Jeanine Baca, Heimrich, and Abby Habicht can all hit the long ball as well. Habicht's prob (that I've noticed) is that she drops her shoulder a lot when swinging and pops up a lot. However, she did hit the game winning HR during the MAC tourney last year!! We have a few players who play the drug bunt role...Emmy Ramsey and Kari Steigerwald to name a few. All together, this team is really balanced and they are an exciting and fun team to watch!!

Suicide Corner is the name a few players like to call 3rd base. With the short field and majority of right-handed batters, it takes a certain bit of insanity to stand 20 feet from a batter that will most likely pull a line drive right at your head.

Hopefully the games won't take on the tourney title and actually be somewhat warm!

UK is currently 2-13 on the young season, so hopefully the BG women can get a convincing win against the Wildcats in Chattanooga.

Should be another exciting year. Lot of talent returning.

"BGSU is slated to play at least 12 games against teams that participated in last year's NCAA Regionals. A total of six games in the month of March alone come vs. teams that were ranked or received votes in the initial 2005 national poll". - Coach Ross-Shaw commenting on helping BG's RPI for the NCAA Tourney.

As always, Ross-Shaw feels that her Falcon team is capable of competing with all comers, and that it all comes down to the team in the orange and brown (and sometimes white) uniforms.

"As I said, this is the strongest team that I have had, in terms of physical capabilities," said the head coach. "We need to be the mentally-toughest team as well. I do think we are at the point where we can go and challenge other teams on a national scale.

"I also told the girls that, now that we have won a MAC Tournament title, we will have a bulls-eye on our backs, and no one is going to overlook us. We may, at times, feel like everyone is out to get us. But, that means we just need to be stronger. And, it is all up to us. If everyone has the right attitude, and if everyone works hard, we have the ability to do well.

"We have killed ourselves in the past. If we wanted to win, we won; if we didn't, we didn't. We want to have that killer mentality. We want to scratch and claw for every run and every out, to play like we played in the MAC Tournament last May. If we can prepare hard and work hard, the results will take care of themselves."
