Just for kicks, I thought I'd look at the results from this 6-0 start.

78-50 W over IPFW
77-55 W over St. Fr(PA)
66-55 W @ IUPUI (HI Classic)
68-50 W @ Ind. (HI Classic)
78-67 W @ Detroit
76-51 W over Duquesne

The first word that jumps out to me is consistency. We're in a 12-pt range every game for our scoring, and except for Detroit, our opponents have been between 50-55 points. The last 3 teams we've played are all very good teams. Over the first 6 games, the average score has been 74-55 for an average 19 point margin. That's pretty impressive.

It's also interesting to note than we will probably play 3 more very good teams in the 5 game roadie before MAC play begins at home on the seventh. FIU and Kentucky are both very very good teams. St Joe's, who we'll play if we can beat delaware and they can beat Iona, is getting votes in polls just like we are. This is going to be a tough road stretch, and I just hope we come home healthy.

I'm not very familiar with how often mid-majors get at-large bids in WCB. However, if we can get 3 or 4 wins on this roadie, and have a similar MAC record to last year, I would think we'd be in pretty good shape even if we got upset in the MAC tourney. I'm getting ahead of myself, but it's been a boring week.

I am not sure either but I would not be surprised if it isthe same as MCB. I mean last year they won the conference and the tournament and only got a 13 seed. What's the best we could hope for this year? It sucks on having to rely on an automatic bid.

I thought the same thing, but then again it seems to me there are more "mid-major" powerhouses on the womens side. Teams like Old Dominion. I've never really followed WCB on a national scale, so I'm hoping the committee might be more open to giving at-larges to a team like us. I think a win at Kentucky goes a long way.

J4H,
Great stuff. One thing that really stands out is our defense...it has been excellent.
These players are all about team....I love following them.

Thats for sure. I like the fact wer'e getting Jazz Mcall alot of playing time and now so will be Whitney Taylor after Casy got hurt which won't hurt us much I think, Taylor's more athletic and has better quickness driving to basket and has quicker release 3pt shot.

Our bench depth is really going to help us down the road. Does anybody have a clue where freshman Deprice Taylor went? Haven't even seen her on the bench in street clothes or anything. I hope she didn't leave or transfer allready. :?

Crap! Thats not good. :? I dont' see this hurting us badly or anything but I don't like the fact that we're losing players before they even play on the ladies side now. :| I hope we get to see this Jessica Meckenzie play soon. She's coming off slight knee injury I think she got colliding with Deprice in practice. That's all I can remember about hearing her name even. Does this give us another schollie to use on someone this recruiting year?

Losing a player or two a year is not uncommon FB. Almost all sports have this problem. The problem is that it goes unnoticed since most people only follow the big sports. My brother had a few guys who dropped off of PSUs gymnastic team during his tenure (in fact he briefly quit due to injury, but later came back. His roommate quit to join the diving team). My brother's wife had a schollie to play field hockey but quit her freshman year. I don't think this is anything that is specific to BG let alone our basketball problem. I'm sure that if you searched all of the sports (ignore FB and MBB) you would see that probably ~5 athletes leave.

Second, I would imagine if they're not using the schollie money on her, They have it to use on a new recruit.

To add to what PGY said, this isn't necessarily a bad thing. I don't know of any official reason as to why she wouldn't be with the team and obviously neither do you. So it's pointless to guess why she is not with the team until someone comes forward with more information. It may be a number of things, many of which aren't bad sign for the program. For example, she may have observed all of the talent on the roster first hand and concluded her playing time was going to be limited with all of the talent currently on the roster and decided to move on. This is just one possibility among an infinite number of possibilities, why assume the worst that it's a bad sign for the program to see one player leave without knowing the story behind it.

With all the talent we've been stockpiling, I don't think it's a problem unless we see a mass defection. That's not gonna happen on a 6-0 team. The main reason transfers/injuries don't hurt the women's team as much as they would our men's team, is that we have continually had impact freshman ready to contribute right out of the box. That will cover up players leaving or getting injured.

We've also been very fortunate with injuries the past few years while a lot of our MAC competitors have been hard-hit. Anyone have an update on Casey? I haven't heard anything.

In Friday's Sentinel, it was stated that she should be out 2-4 weeks. Also, the team will be attending the Heat/Nuggets game. Jason Jackson (BG grad) works for the Heat and his wife works for FIU. Coach Miller is hoping the team can get a picture with Shaq.

falconboy...please don't refer to an injury to any player as a "blessing". Casey is a valuable member of the team aznd she played a key role during last season's MAC championships.

Try to remember that players, coaches etc... read these boards. For all you know, Caey herself is reading this board. How would you like to read some goofball saying that you're being injured is a good thing?

Sorry I shoulda've said that losig Casey wasn't going kill us or anything. I think Goldsberry and Taylor will be fine in her absence.
