The Way Teams will Try to Beat us in Hoops

Looking at our remaining schedule, I doubt that any MAC teams can match our talent. So, how will they try to beat us?

I think it's pretty clear. They will try to get us in foul trouble, especially Kate and Liz. Kate is so competitive that she hates to let people penetrate and Liz likes to play physical in the post.

My recollection is that close games or losses have resulted from our getting into foul trouble.

Fortunately, we are developing more and more depth that could help us deal with that. And I'm betting that our coaching staff will emphasize developing this depth.

EMU and KSU are the only teams in the league that are at least close to us talent-wise.

As far as foul trouble goes, Ali Mann has been the most foul-prone falcon historically. If I were an opposing coach, I would go right at Ali from the start trying to get a few fouls on her.

There are 2 ways IMO a MAC team beats us this year. The first is if for some reason our defense takes a night off. It hasn't yet, and hopefully the team can stay focused throughout the season. There is so much experience, I tend to think they will.

The only other way a MAC team beats us is to pack into a zone and hope we shoot ourselves out of the game like we did against Delaware. Our only weakness thus far has been long cold streaks from the outside. What we need to do when we're not hitting is start working it inside more and having Kate and Ali drive and get to the line.

If we can get more consistent from the outside, we will be very very tough to beat down the stretch. If we can make it to the tournament, we'll be a tough out for some bigger schools.
