Attention BG radio guys

Before I bring this up, I'll say that I appreciate all the radio coverage of games. I love being able to listen to the games when I can't make it to AA (like last night). I realize that you play-by-play guys are learning your craft and trying to get better, and I understand that completely.

But for Christ's sake at least learn to pronounce our OWN PLAYERS' names correctly. There is nobody named Karen Horne on our team, and frankly, it pisses me off to no end that our own radio guys don't know our players' names. There is also nobody named Justin McCall on the team. This is women's basketball -- does the name Justin even sound like it might be right?? And it's not just once in a while either -- it's over and over and over again. I would appreciate it, if anybody who calls the games or knows the guys that do, could pass this info along. I think it's terribly disrespectful to mispronounce our own players' names. [/rant]

Thanks for listening -- I feel better now.

Legitimate concern, J4H. When I listen to games on the net and hear "Karen" Horne? :?

But I'll give the guys doing the play by play credit. I was in radio for over 10 years and it takes time and practice to improve. Overall, I think they do a pretty decent job.

BEAT MIAMI!!

Exactly -- I don't really care that much about the spotty play-by-play work because these guys are learning. They're not supposed to be all that great, although I think a lot of them do an excellent job. But pronouncing our players' names correctly? C'mon. That doesn't take effort or practice, but it can be fixed very easily.

I think of it this way -- If I'm listening to the KSU radio broadcast, and their play-by-play guy refers to Lindsay Shearer as "Lizzy Sharer", what is my opinion of that school going to be? It's kind of like our football guy butchering Magner's name. It's just something that shows a basic level of respect or disrespect, and it's always infuriated me for some reason. It's just one of the few things I'm anal about.

since, as you know, i arrived a little late to the MAC Center the other day, i listened to the first 6-8 minutes of the game on KSU radio. their play by play guy, a professional who sounded to be in his 40s at least, also did some battle with pronunciations, especially with our players. what really kills me is that there is a pronunciation guide included with our roster in the media guide.

In fairness to the guy that called that game, Dave Milo....he was filling in for the usual play by play man. As long as it wasn't Bill Needle. That guy NEVER shuts up...loves to hear himself talk and is very annoying.
