What a game!

Wow. That was the most electric non-tourney atmosphere I've ever seen for a women's game. That's a damn good team we just beat, and if Nikki Knapp shows up, we might have come out on the other end of this one.

Great crowd. Kudos to all the students and townsfolk that showed up. Make sure you keep comin' back. I've never seen more people in Anderson for a women's game. Hell, that was a better crowd than some men's games. Awesome, awesome job by everyone who got people there.

My MVP? Most would say Ali or Kate or Liz. I'm goin with Amber Flynn. She provided a spark in the first half off the bench, especially on the offensive glass, and then she kept us in the game when Ali and Carin were out with foul trouble in the second half. Without Amber, we lose that game by more than a couple points. She's turned into a great bench option for us this year.

You could see the experience of this team today. Every time Eastern started their run, somebody stepped up and made a play, especially on the defensive end. Kate was a little out of control at the beginning, but Jazz spelled her nicely and Kate got it together. I don't think Eastern ever had a lead.

What a great win. If we can win this weekend, we have an outside shot to sneak into the polls. GO BG!

We're Number One!!!!!!

There had to be more than 1581 there tonight, there wasn't an empty seat to be found on the east side of the arena, until you got into the diagonal section. The west side was mostly filled up too, until maybe halfway up the upper section. It wasn't much less than Sunday's game against Akron.

On another note, tonight's game was great. Our defense was outstanding for the first 12 minutes of the 2nd half, and that allowed us to build a big lead. We got sloppy with our free throws at the end, and that's what caused the game to be closer than it really was at the end, but for 36-37 minutes, this game was a butt-kicking. Amber was awesome tonight, she really made some big plays while some of our starters were in foul trouble early, Ali played another good game, Kate absolutely went off! 20 points for her? Wow! Just another night of great performances for this team.

Side note, the referees were VERY whistle happy tonight. Neither team could get into a rhythm early because of all the whistles. It continued into the 2nd half too.

be happy they were whistle happy.

We shot 20 more free throws than Eastern. That is where the game was won. We were agressive and took it to them.

Nikki Knapp looks wider and slower, and simply not as good as the past 2 years. Anyone else notice this?

I think Cankles is still a good player, but she has always been very streaky. If you can shut her down on her first few shots, she'll disappear. Liz handed her lunch to her about 4 straight shot attempts and Cankles folded.

It was kind of hard to notice anything with Martin Lawrence in full Big Momma makeup stomping around. Holy crap that was a whole lotta woman.

Pretty damn close. Not quite as wide, but maybe taller. She made Liz look Achterish. Her name wasn't nearly as much fun to say as Mdupe though.

They did a really good job defending the post for most of the game.
EMU looked very frustrated as they had difficulty even getting an entry pass down low.

Kate Achter is a joy to watch. DD should have John Floyd study her tapes.
She needs to ease off on the dives a little bit. You take yourself out of position defensively when you're lying on the floor and the refs get pissed if you sell that stuf too hard.

What a game, it seems as if the intensity of the ladies continues to rise. It was a great team effort with depth on the bench. Amber Flynn with 12 pts, what a spark. She D'd up ok with the big 50. I was really excited to see a great turnout. Kudos to STC Eric who rallied some students from their dorms to show their prescence on the floors of AA :D For those who can make it see ya up north Sunday. Congrats to the coaches and players.

A couple quotes from Miller about what has been said about Amber and the crowd. I knew if we could get a great crowd in there we could rattle Eastern some.

"How about the crowd? That was unbelievable, and a big part of tonight's story. Our marketing people did a great job, and the student body really came out and supported us in a big game tonight. It's so crucial to have that homecourt advantage. We have the sixth-longest win streak in the country at home, and if we can continue to draw crowds like that, I hope that streak continues for a long time."

"Wow, unbelievable. The last thing we talked about before leaving the lockerroom was, who would be the X factor? Would we have that person, that no one talks about, be the X factor, or would Eastern have that player? When you look at it, they had one, in Annie Malatinsky, and we had one in Amber Flynn. We can't win that game without Amber Flynn tonight. She stepped up and was big; hit some free throws that gave her confidence, and then she stepped out and made that 3. I can't be more happy for her; she was the X factor. Amber Flynn deserves a ton of credit for this victory."

I'm looking forward to seeing quotes from Suzy Merchant saying how the crowd affected them :)

Suzy won't say anything about the crowd. She won't give any credit to anything BG. :x

I've got tto say, the officiating blew for the entire first half, both ways. The weird part is that they wern't even consistent with the calls they missed. They miss an offensive block on us, and then miss a travel on them, which I think they did a lot.

We certainly has some trouble from the foul line in the second half. Hopefully thats a funk we can get out of.

Overall though, great game by the ladies.

She did last year.

Suzy Merchant:

(On the atmosphere)
"It was hot in there. It was hot in there, it was loud in there ... I thought they had a really nice crowd. They're always right on top of you. Every time you come in here, it could be ten below (outside), and to me, it just feels like the intensity is so high in here. The fans are right on you, and they were loud, yelling 'defense' down the stretch. I think they got us out of rhythm, because (the players) couldn't hear what I was staying ... I thought their crowd certainly made a difference."

Of course that was after a win for EMU. She might not be so complimentary after last night :)
