thatguy wrote:So....I just watched the band video from this year. I guess everything went as planned.... the Trumpets covered up the entire band.....the whole time.... and they held over on releases more than once. I feel bad for the woodwinds and the drums because I could not hear them. I only heard the snares when they cracked a rim shot. I would really feel bad for the woodwinds.....they try and show their family the DVD and they can not even hear them.... The drill was boring as crap... I feel bad for all the members of the FMB.....If I was in this band.... I would be ashamed. I hope next year is better for everyone, Ill be in the stands...praying to see something with tallent.....

my 2 cents..

Ya know, I have NO idea how "Number nine" says "Turn me on dead man" backwards, but it DOES. I remember recording "Revolution #9" onto my computer a few years back and playing it all backwards and doing a bunch of other crazy audio stuff with it. But really, I've taken that phrase, and written and soubded it out backwards, and it doesn't at all come out to what it sounds like backwards. That song is messed up.

I'm not really sure how to respond to this thread but I am disappointed at the negativity from "thatguy" Yeah, I appreciate you sticking up for the woodwinds but the only thing the DVD is lacking is sound quality. And that is basically b/c of where the camera is positioned. I was pleased with the drill from this year it fit the music and the time we had to learn it in. I just don't appreciate when people come in here and start bashing things they were never a part of. If you're a current member or an alumni - voice your opinion. If you thought it was so painful to watch from the stands then why did you watch the DVD?

Also, I'm offended that you would say you are ashamed to have this band representing you. If you want to be offended by a band representing you go somewhere like UT where they have been struggling to keep members in band for longer than their freshman year. The FMB can and will get better, but it takes time and dedication from all aspects of the band - you can't point a finger just at one person. Personally, in my 4 years of being in the FMB, I think it has been making great progress in becoming a better band. In EVERY band there is room for improvement, even your beloved drum corps.

Lastly, if your friends hated marching band perhaps they were what made it look bad in your eyes. Don't dog the organization until you've been in it. Sorry your friends didn't have a good time... they should have done something to change it or just not done it at all.

That is all. :-# Pardon me for PMS-ing all over this topic. :smt091

thatguy wrote:I understand the whole woodwind thing fine..... I have been around marching band and drum corps for sometime now. For anyone that wants to argue that the trumpets do not overplay MOST of the time.... thats just sad. If you think that is the sound that is meant to come out of the horn....thats just plain sad. as for the drill.... I was not talking about the one week hip pop show... I'm talking about the show you spent most of your season with....Wicked.... bored me to death.... and the Incredibals..... why in the heck would you try to march in a weird time signature when half the band cant even march in 4/4 correctly and stay in time...I'm just ashamed to have this band representing me.... I have friends in the band and they feel the same as I do. I have been a part of higher caliber orginazations and I promise you, the band could be much better..... no I am not saying I could do it, I just know that if people were in charge that had half a brain about marching band, it could be better, and EVERYONE would like it.....Band is meant to be fun, not something that you hate going to. My friends in band HATE IT... but I will not speak for them. thats all I have right now.... I await your comments....and pardon my spelling...
I guess I'll say that everyone is entitled to their opinion, because I truly believe they are, regardless of how completely ass-backwards it is.

I'll also say it bugs me that thrice now he has been asked to tell who he, the almightly albeit non-marching god of the FMB, is, and he has failed to do so.

So with that said, he is entitled to his opinion, and we are all entitled to ignore it and laugh at him silently inside for his blatent ignorance and refusal to investigate a situation in a non-baised manner. Remember this moment during fundies week next August kids, and be filled with pride.

And besides, like most people on this board who aim to only ruffle feathers, he'll be gone in a week anyway...

Great post graceful. I thought it was a great comparison to UT. I found out this weekend that I won't be able to march next year, my senior year, because of a class conflict (unless Dr. Hayward would be extremely generous and crazy and let me march even though I would be missing rehearsal 2 times a week)....stupid methods. It's going to be hard to watch the FMB take the field without me out there, but I am proud of my 3 years and wish like crazy I could be back for a fourth. I think that says a lot about the band.
