So what you're saying is that you're getting in your car right now and driving to BG? So you have your own first hand account?

You make more excuses as a group as to why you shouldn't have to cheer....PLAY IN CONCERT BAND IF YOU DON'T WANT TO CHEER....better yet....GO TO TOLEDO!!!!

If you are there to support our team GET THE F§(k OUT!!!! Thats all there is to it!!!

Whiny little kids.....now you know why people call us band geeks!!!
True, true. I've been in A-band for three years now and, for whatever reason, this is the least spirited A-band in my time at BG. I really don't know why, but it's kinda distressing that so few people in band actually care to see BGSU win games.

I don't know how many times I've been at a game and have people complaining about wanting to leave because the game is going long, or moaning about why we had to come back in a hockey game and take it into overtime. On top of that, one trumpet player thought it would be really funny to play Notre Dame's fight song at the end of a Notre Dame hockey game when we lost a close game in the final minutes.

I don't know what it will take to get the band spirited, but I personally would rather see a fifteen piece band of the craziest, biggest BGSU fans instead of a sixty piece band of only a few people who actually care. Just my thought ...

First of all, welcome Mark (it's about time  )! Secondly, I agree with you. I am appalled at the trumpet's behavior.....although I was there for both games (at the end), so I don't know how I missed it. However, the last couple of games have gotten better, but hopefully they will get even better for the upcoming MAC tourney!

i agree with both of you.. i don't like when other play other things that are just not necessary.
but the last few games i've played at, and i've pretty much played all games, things are getting better. One band is much more spirited then the other, but atleast both bands now seem to be wanting to cheer more
Go Falcons!

Although there are a couple of possibilities as to who it may be, I believe we can all almost guarantee we know exactly who that player is. No names need be mentioned. Hopefully he reads this and is ashamed of himself.
Yeah right girl!

ok..so if we're gonna talk about spirit..lets talk about how the rest of our section has these things called DANCE MOVES that we do to nearly every song and how SOME of us don't do them. *cough*. Yeah...lets talk about spirit. Sorry...now you got me on a lil mini rant. I'm done now.

MarkL...not sure which band you're refering to, b/c from my view up top both bands, but Talon especially, are spirited. In fact ive heard DDr. Hayward mention how spirited and into the game this band is, unseen in years previous.

Maybe you need to take your head out of your posterior and look at the band. By the way, complaining here does jack, bring it up during the game to get ppl in the game.

It certainly got better toward the end of the season, but the real issue I saw is that so few people really cheered for the teams. In general for about every game you could pick out 5 to 10 people in band who are cheering for the team the whole way through and the rest of the band just conversing, and then there were some who seemed to really not want to be there. The band sounded pretty good most of the time and from an outside view seemed to be enjoying themselves, but didn't act as a cheering group like they could. I don't know, maybe it's that I'm a big sports fan who just happens to play an instrument ...

well the season is over now. just tourney band is left. I thought the year was great. I have done a-band for 5 years. I totally believe this has been my favorite year of a-band. cheering was not the best at the beginning of the season, but by the end it got there. I am happy with how things went. Seemed that we were liked by alot of people and that is great. I am going to miss a-band! maybe I'll figure out somehow to do it while being graduated! hehe. what a band dork i am!
well can't wait till Cleveland in a couple days! GOOOO FALCONS!

Forgive me for bumping this, but A-Band gets...paid? Next thing you'll tell me is that they tore Prout cafeteria down...what?

Hey, things change and attitudes change. There's always going to be SOME people who do things for the wrong reasons, and given a chance, people on the outside (including Alumni) will always criticize what they perceive to be wrong with something. It's easy to do, but it's up to the people on the inside to make the changes for the better, whether those changes will be perceived or not. I remember a wise man telling us before every Homecoming game that for Alumni, it's never as good as when they were in band, so get out there and make it the best it can be now.

That being said, it does grieve me to hear morale is so low in general in both FMB and A-Band. After all, while I don't agree with his politics, there's a certain State Senator from Akron who as USG President dubbed us "the world's most dangerous Athletic Band." Grant, I believe that was right after we made Judd Heathcote cry, wasn't it? For those of you who have no idea, Heathcote coached Magic Johnson to a National Championship at MSU before Tom Izzo took over and was quoted as saying he'd never bring another MSU team into Anderson because it was a bad environment for his squad. Who's Tom Izzo? Nevermind, I'm losing the point.

Even then, at the height of our rowdiest, there were people in A-Band who seemed annoyed at the fact that others were actually cheering. They were in the minority, but they were there. Hopefully, A-Band (and FMB for that matter) are not being held back from cheering by the PTB. Personally, I have never had any class, but as a group, we were always classy when we cheered, and loud, and rowdy, and into the games, even when the performance on the court/ice/field was less than stellar. It's all what you make it, so make it right (did I just quote Hannah Montana? I really need to stop watching as much television with my daughter).

Next you'll tell me that there's guys living in McDonald...huh? Get out of here, no way!
