But more importantly, a drum MINOR? really?
I think someone forgot their sarcasm goggles.

And the only reason I made that comment at the time was because the trend of the *ahem* "discussion" was that the drum major having his/her back to the field was the main issue.

Yeah, suppose I could have taken those darn goggles off. Sorry. lol.

And on a totally random note: anyone else notice how quickly this thread started to die the minute it got moved to the band forum? I am glad that this thread got moved to where it should have been started in the first place (including the other wonderful thread), but where are the near 5-10 pages of posts like the last time?

Where is everyone that has/had a problem? Have all the concerns finally been addressed? Interesting...
Just wait until next time BG loses a home game, whenever that might be. Some people will blame absolutely anybody for a ridiculous loss and the band seemed like a good scapegoat. Yeah, it sucks. There's a few issues the band has to work out, like a clear understanding of when to cut off, but the band is NOT at fault for any BG losses.

My suggestion from my years in FMB as a massive football spectator - when you see that the team is lining up and you know you should stop playing, do what I did. Put your instrument down, stare at the drum major, get their attention, and point at the field. They'll turn around, look at the game, and cut off. They can't see the field during songs, but people in band can, so if you can get them to stop directing, go ahead. This is a much better solution than potentially, however unlikely, getting the team a 15 yard penalty, keeping the team from hearing signals, and getting a bunch of pissed off AZZ posters riled up.

That's a good strategy. Another thing with this, realize the drum majors are now completely facing the wrong way. In the east and west stands, they were only 90 degrees from the action most of the time.

Well, hell. They figured out how to fix that issue hundreds of years ago in the churches. A good number of Cathedral pipe organs have mirrors above the keyboards so the organist can see/direct the chorus. Maybe the band can work that up.

Hell, on a related note, the band doesn't really need drum majors anyway. I've never relied on them in marching band anyway, and I'm sure I'm not alone in this. In most bands, they're only there for show anyway, so who's it going to kill if they stop conducting and watch the game? Really, by the time you get to college, if you can't keep a steady tempo on some marching band tune, you've got issues.

Out of sight, out of mind. I get the impression that most of the "football people" don't read the band forum. It's only us band geeks and the core group of the message board that dare venture in here. It's like we're weird, or strange, or have syphilis or something. :P

It was by design. I don't like anyone shitting on my beloved FMB.

I don't buy the DM's facing the wrong direction. They can turn around. Has the band cut it close? Yeah, you betcha - but I still see no violation of any human rights nor rule. If there was a violation, then there should be punishment. I know of no censure handed down to the band.

RUIT, I agree. But if they really have something to say, and are trying to make some type of valid argument...they should have followed the thread into OUR domain. but alas, tis not to be.

By the way...I wonder if fans in DeKalb had issues with the band today...

And I will admit that SUCKS - SUCKS - but the band overplaying the play has a slightly different effect. It's apples and oranges.
