Alumni Athletic Band 01/22/2005 - Thanks to Many...

Post by 87JR »

I want publicly thank the band alums who were able to brave Saturday's weather for the WMU women's game. We decided to play for that game since it was Reading Clinic weekend in the College of Musical Arts and many students/faculty normally involved with Athletic Band were busy with that event (in other words, there wouldn't have been a band for that game if the alums hadn't decided to play).

Needless to say, the severe weather prohibited many alums from being able to get back to BG (our director included). Many students (18 to be exact) came to our rescue, as Reading Clinic activities for Saturday ended up being cancelled. The combined alumni/student band, under the direction of Ryan Nowlin (faculty member, but also a BGSU alum), was able to add greatly to the atmosphere for the women's game versus WMU, IMO.

Then, thanks to the generosity of Dr. Hayward and Dr. Moss, we alums were allowed to hang around and play with the current student band at the UT men's game. I think I speak for all of the alums who were there when I say that was a great experience.

Thanks again to the alums who tried/hoped to make it to the WMU game but couldn't, the alums who were able to get to BG, the current students who greatly added to our numbers/instrumentation for the WMU game, and especially Ryan Nowlin for coming to our rescue and directing us at the women's game.

It was a blast (I still can't believe that UT game)! We'll be back for a game or two next season!

Thanks for letting us play with you at the women's game! We (at least the people I talked to) were super-excited to be allowed to join the alumni band. It was too bad more of you couldn't come, but it was a lot of fun anyway. It was cool to hear the tunes played a little differently from the way they usually are.

Can't wait for the next time you come!
