Bingo! It should be a natural thing for the vets to see someone struggling and to help them out. As a vet, when not in a leadership position, you get the same frustrations as the nugeyes. Sometimes people just need to step up and "take the nugeyes under their Falcon wings!"

Fundamentals week can be killer for some of the people just coming in because of their different styles from past bands and even the size of the bands they have been in. The new people don't know what to expect so it should take more than just your normal leadership to be leaders and help people fit in. The way I've always seen it is that the leadership is there to teach, enhance, discipline and bring the section together. The vets should use these same principles but make it fun atmosphere so no one feels uncomfortable.

So Strouse and all the rest of you, if you see a kid struggling, take him to the side and help him out! :D

I realize that Metzger...and I guess I just want to say thanks for that...but I wish that more people can hear that, read that, whatever...I just hope that as fundamentals week nears, more people realize that they will have to step up in not only my section, but others as well. From some others, the maggots aren't the only ones who don't exactly like the choices Doc Hayward and Co. made, but they've been chosen, we'll have to adjust and deal with it. We are the smartest group on campus anyway, so I'm sure we can figure it out somehow!! :D

I was just thinking that!!

I wish more bandies were aware of this forum. It might help to gain some perspective at times when frustrations abound. (Assuming it didn't turn into a flame-war, lol.)

You all aren't supposed to agree with me...it's not ethical!

What's the consensus on the DMs?

Both of them were very good section leaders this past year, Brian for the mellos, and Heather for the clarinets. So there is no question about their leadership ability. Some people have expressed concern about the amount of confidence (or possible lack thereof) portrayed by one of the DMs during conducting auditions, but I wasn't there, so I can't express my opinion on that.

History has shown that Mellos make the best drum majors.

Trepidation in conducting? You weren't having to conduct to the finale to the Firebird Suite*, were you?

*Out of 4 years drum major that is the song with which I had the most difficult time. Darn you Igor!

I was there...I didn't really see any lack of confidence. I think afterwards there is a lot of jealously being displayed though. Both of them will do great!!

Well, good. As I said, I wasn't there.

I thought both were good choices when I saw them on the list, too.
