I think we were so cramped in Kobacker because we had the front half of the stage lowered to accommodate the flags & twirlers, right? With it up, it's not SO bad. But still no better than Kelly-- and good lord, setting up in there every time the FMB wants to rehearse would be hellish.Godsgirlerific wrote:Personally, I can only handle so many rehearsals in Kobacker, mainly because of the scorching stage lights. And gosh, now that I think about it, our rehearsals onstage are even more cramped than they are in Kelly.
I would llllloooooovvvveee a facility solely for the FMB..... where we could actually have room for the band and the instruments and the uniforms..... anyone know any alumni-marcher lottery winners?

We weren't cramped. Back in the mid-late 90's people (like my brother) were forced to sit behind the curtains. If I wanted to watch him, I could only sit at one side of the place. Everone else was just as cramped if not worse than we were this past year. The front has always been lowered for the flags and twirlers since I've been watching/playing in the concerts.FliccGirl wrote: I think we were so cramped in Kobacker because we had the front half of the stage lowered to accommodate the flags & twirlers, right?

You all are missing the point of my post, and I probably didn't explain it right. You would be sitting in the SEATS with the conductor on stage facing out. You will have plenty of room. And I do remember the Sounds of the Stadium in 1995. I was sitting right next to the curtain and there were three behind it. That was cramped. The only time the whole drum line played what for cadences. I still loved the year the band wendt "Mr. Kely Old School" and had the concert in Anderson Arena. That was AWESOME!!!
So I was out at the driving range and had a great idea, I think so anyway. Wouldn't it be cool if the College of Musical Arts and Bowling Green State University were to help raise money for the COTA complex and donate the land to build it right here on campus in exchange for allowing the Falcon Marching Band to use the facility as a year round rehersal facility. Imagine how our marching band technique classes can benifit from a facility like this, not to mention the FMB. Does anyone else think this is a cool idea we well, or did I maybe hit myself in the head with a golf club and not remember it

The Thundering Cows fans heated up PENNIES with LIGHTERS?! Only in, as my late grandma put it, West-by-God-Virgin would they DO THAT! I am sorry about our fans, from what I have heard the atmosphere at that game was ELECTRIC because you were ranked, and our fans thought we should have been. If it was students, then they prolly were a little drunk. You should have done what the MUMB does, and razz the crowd BACK. We LOVE to get into it with the crowd, and we do it ESPECIALLY with the fans at sUCks. Last season, I almost went over the wall at Nippert to tackle the cheerleader with UC's flag because after EVER touchdown he'd come down and wave it infront of OUR band. He was booed, and screamed at, and played at. I heard the worst fans were Marshall, we sent a pep band there ONCE in '02. That game is FOREVER engrained in the collective Miami memories.... Marshall 4 and LONG.... Seconds left, Miami's band starts into 'Love and Honor', and then the phantom PI call.... a stunned Miami crowd, and a fighting coach...
I heard that alot of fans at the Doyt booed our band, and that a few things got hurled from the stands, but there were PLENTY compliments for our band. Where did they have you sitting in Yager? The South endzone? That is where they put Kent State's band this year, and OUR band razzed them... we went into their stands and stood with them and played our fight song TO them.
I hope to see you in Yager! P.S. I hope along with the BEAUTIFUL SEBO they build you guys a GOOD MB building(Indoor practice facilities.... could be used for indoor soccer? Might help it pass.)

Oh, trust me, I think all of us would have LOVED to do and say things back to them; I would bet that some of our band members were exercising their maximum amount of self-control restraining themselves. Our director, however, has stressed the concept of the FMB being "a class act." This principle is expected to be constantly present in our behavior when we are in any way representing the FMB. So, as much as we may want to dish it out to some nasty fans,MiamiBando wrote: You should have done what the MUMB does, and razz the crowd BACK.
And I believe that we did sit where you are thinking of in Yager. They were endzone bleachers, and we were in the lower left corner (if you are sitting in the bleachers). The BG fans were at the end of the sideline bleachers with the press box, just to our left.
Oh, when we arrived at Yager that night, one of my friends exclaimed, "Yager Stadium?? Man, we need to change our stadium's name from the Doyt to Corona-With-Lime Stadium!! (BG people, I'll give you three guesses as to who said that

Now you know why a few MUMBers got so upset when we lost Beer Pregame... no more Jager in Yager.
Yeah, below the scoreboard, is where you were seated. Those stands no longer exist.
So, you might sit with your fans this time around.... they are moving our band too. (Not going into it, just know we aren't happy about it, in fact BG had something to do with the MAC protest of the MUMB seating arrangement in Yager.
) I almost wish the game was at the Doyt.... I hear it is ELECTRIC there every game...almost.
We got yelled at by our Grad-asses for yelling at the ISUCF'V'MB. Yeah, it's "The IOWA State UNIVERSITY CYCLONE FOOTBALL VARSITY MARCHING BAND!" And they wondered why we laughed at them, Big 12 or not. They yelled some not nice things about Killing RedHawks, and we got yelled at for yelling.... BREAK HIS LEGS! BREAK HIS D*MN LEGS!
Oh band... Anyways, if you get haranged by Miami fans, just ignore them as the idiot fringe, most fans I know are classy, and VERY kind. Heck, they clapped for Kent State's band, while the MUMB laughed...albeit in a state of shock...
I heard some stories of the Doyt at the MACC. Something about our tubas serenading your crowd and team? Made the ESPN highlights. I also heard someone in your stands got upset at the Miami band for harrassing Harris. (Earlier in the year, at Yager, the fans were obsessed yelling, "HAR-RIS! HAR-RIS! HAR-RIS!") You need to understand that is a part of our band, we harrass the other team, from coaches to waterboys. Amstutz got it from us, as he was eating a sandwich, we thought to yell, "HEY COACH! ATKINS WORKS WONDERS!" and "HEY COACH! EAT A SALAD!"
Oh, the UT game... Mullet-guy, the guy named Hay(changed a cheer for him.)
It's all in good fun. You FMBers are a class act, and everyone knows it. 8)

Metzger, for the record, I said 2000, not 2001. In 2000, Marshall came to BG, and the FMB was sitting on the East side of the Doyt. In 2001, the FMB which you were in, went to Huntington, and we sat way up in the one endzone. And btw, I disagree. I would have LOVED to have won that game. The trip back to the busses might not have been fun, but it would have been worth it. Just remember, if any of their fans actually did anything serious to you, there are these things called "Lawyers" now. With their assistance, you could sue the Toothless-Wonder for every cent that his/her trailer is worth.
For the record, Marshall screwed the FMB that year. From what I heard, they made the FMB PAY for every ticket to the game. So, you do the math because I'm lazy. About 170 seats TIMES 17 dollars EQUALS a lot of scratch. Anyone notice that the FMB didn't go on a road trip in '02? Hmmm.... its like they had no money.....

OH! Now I remember.
Ignorant post can be ignored now. I think working at Meijer for the summer is putting my brain cells in a coma; that's the only explanation.

My high school band director (the last one of the 3) was a drum jaor at toledo when TU beat Marshall at Marshall. He said there were people throwing knives and hatchets at the band busses. That was my reasoning for saying I'm glad we didn't win that game. However, it is my understanding that it is acceptable to throw sharp objects at toledo people so that might have been the reason for it. And thanks for correcting my mistake.bgmaggot00 wrote:And btw, I disagree. I would have LOVED to have won that game.
