agreed... buffo should return... but it looks like it'll never happen. it's sad the people in charge keep deciding to take all the fun away...

Oh, please. I'm sorry, but that's silly. Band kids will always, always manage to have fun.

Traditions come to an end. They do. Sometimes it's sad, and sometimes we might not like how it happens, but the world-- and the FMB-- does not come to an end because of it.

Personally, I think it would be cool for to BUFFO comeback. However since I've only ever heard about BUFFO it's hard for me to know exactly what I'm missing. Not really know details, both about what they did, and why they were disbanded, makes it really difficult for me to make up my mind. All I really know about BUFFO is that they were some sort of a "Sprit Squad" from when the FMB and SICSIC didn't really get along too well, and that they did something to upset the band staff. Unfortunatly I have gotten the impression that to truly understand and appreciate BUFFO, one must experience it first hand. While I think it would be nice to see BUFFO return (if no other reason than because the alumni taught it so highly) but I'm not going to lose any sleep over the fact that they are apparently gone for good.

I understand what you are saying and I've changed my share of traditions. I never changed anything close to shutting down something like BUFFO.

BUFFO was special. Very special. That can't be described on this board.

I remember, and loved BUFFO. I think it could be brought back if some administrative controls were established. I was at the banquet when the "CLUE" incident happened, and it was classless. That is something I have shared with those I knew to be BUFFO's. But as pointed out before, many of the current band members have never heard of BUFFO, so a fresh start could happen. And it could be used as a recruiting tool to bring some disgrunteled alumni back for homecomming. I think if a porposal were to be but together that allowed for some control by the directors but maintain the fun of the group, and it was put into writing, this thing could take off again.

if people ever decided to do something like that, i'd totally help out with it. but from what i've heard, it unfortunately won't happen.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I honestly don't think anyone has ever gone to the administration and actually TRIED to start Buffo again. I'm sure the overall feeling is that it won't happen again, but I don't think it's fair to say that until someone gives it a shot. Wouldn't it be well worth the effort if we could have Buffo back?

So exactly what happened to get Buffo axed?

I'd love to get my hands on some of those poems from the day. They were hilarious.

if anyone else would wanna go in on this with me, i'd check into it. i know some former buffo and could talk to them about things as well.

i, unfortunately, got to BG just after buffo got axed... but i would definitely be willing to research it a bit and do what i can!

I think it could work, too. The way it which it is suggested could make a big difference. If everyone's willing to be reasonable-- and if the administration is allowed to have a say in what goes on, I'm sure-- there's certainly a chance.

A prank/insult was leveled against a grad asst by BUFFO insulting the grad and forcing Moss to discipline the perps. It had to do with a game of "Clue". The perps apologized for what they thought was good fun. The initial discipline was to suspend BUFFO's activities for a year. The current leadership of the band program liked the lack of BUFFO and consciencely never brought BUFFO back. Funny, the NCAA at least gives a school probation before the death sentence to clean up their act. BUFFO wasn't given the same civil treatment.

This angered students and alumni alike (along with Chief.)

It's been so long that the current rank and file don't know what they're missing and probably would rail against the reinstitution of BUFFO. BUFFO is gone for good.

I quote Chief, "Maybe she NEEDED a clue."

My blood is beginning to boil, so I'm going to close.

I don't know. BUFFO is still legendary among many of the current rank and file, at least the older ones. Out of curiosity, why do you think they would rail against its reinstitution?
