homecoming show

Post by FliccGirl »

Music from the FMB's past is coming back to haunt us! Since this is our 80th year, for homecoming we're playing music from the 1984 season (Birth of the Blues), from the 1994 season (theme from "Hook"), and from the 1989 and 99 seasons (Sing Sing Sing).

Oh, and the song y'all get to play with us during pregame is Birdland from the 1979 season.

Any of those sound familiar to you FMB alums? :)

I'd have to say the only one I directed was SING SING SING...

And by the way, has anyone gotten the forms to sign up for alumni band??? I haven't registered as I don't know if I've gotten the form yet?

Birdland!! Woohoo :D I just hope the arrangement is decent.

Delaine, I talked to Bonnie just over a week ago and she said the forms were coming out any time. Still haven't received mine either. Seems kind of last minute if they expect to get anyone this year.

The arrangement of Birdland isn't terrible, but it's not the greatest either. The first trumpet part only goes to a high D, and that's not til the ending. (Although Mr. Nowlin asked us to put a double G on the end). It can definitely be made better by throwing a few extra things in. There is a pretty cool 1st trumpet soli line at the end, but up until then, 1st trumpets don't play much.

So because the trumpets don't play a lot, the arrangment isn't the greatest? I'd expect that coming from the trumpet section leader :P

In other words, instead of hearing a great melodic trumpet part, we have to hear high pitch crassy notes coming from a tiny stick that shouldn't be an instrument? :D I'd love it if half the Fliccs became trumpets! Think of how great our band would sound then!!!

the only time this theory applies (its bad b/c <insert instrument> doesnt play enough) is more low brass, most notably, Trombones. We rule, and Marching band is ours. Just ask Bozz.

Bozz is one of our field commanders now so you can't say marching band belongs to the boners! It may however belong to Bozz since we don't do anything until he blows the whistle and moves his arms :D
