2005 FMB

Post by thatguy »

So....I just watched the band video from this year. I guess everything went as planned.... the Trumpets covered up the entire band.....the whole time.... and they held over on releases more than once. I feel bad for the woodwinds and the drums because I could not hear them. I only heard the snares when they cracked a rim shot. I would really feel bad for the woodwinds.....they try and show their family the DVD and they can not even hear them.... The drill was boring as crap... I feel bad for all the members of the FMB.....If I was in this band.... I would be ashamed. I hope next year is better for everyone, Ill be in the stands...praying to see something with tallent.....

my 2 cents..

Oh goody. A new sock puppet. Just when I didn't think I was busy enough with the bball, football, and hockey forums.

Keep the flame-throwers set on "stun" only folks. I beg ya.

Seems kinda funny....I didn't have a problem hearing the woodwinds (at least the fliccs) throughout. Granted, I am a flicc so I know those parts because that's what I played.

As for the drill, we did 4 shows in the month of October with the last one being a one-week wonder. It's tough to have outstanding drill for every single show learned in that short span.

I agree with goofyeuph....please indicate your level of expertise so we can decide how much we trust your word.

I am sorry for your loss of hearing, because I too have seen this video, and I heard plenty more than just trumpet. If you're wanting to hear woodwinds more, then you obviously don't understand marching band. Because of the nature of woodwind instruments, all they are intended for in marching band (if they are used) is to add color. (sorry woodwinds) No one is going to hear flutes and clarinets unless the rest of the band is resting, and that goes for any marching band with woodwinds, not just the FMB. It's just the way it works. If you want to hear woodwinds, go to a sit-down band concert.

Also, I'm in the band and I am not all ashamed as you claim I should be. I'm more ashamed of all the idiots like you that talk bad about things that they obviously don't understand.

I understand the whole woodwind thing fine..... I have been around marching band and drum corps for sometime now. For anyone that wants to argue that the trumpets do not overplay MOST of the time.... thats just sad. If you think that is the sound that is meant to come out of the horn....thats just plain sad. as for the drill.... I was not talking about the one week hip pop show... I'm talking about the show you spent most of your season with....Wicked.... bored me to death.... and the Incredibals..... why in the heck would you try to march in a weird time signature when half the band cant even march in 4/4 correctly and stay in time...I'm just ashamed to have this band representing me.... I have friends in the band and they feel the same as I do. I have been a part of higher caliber orginazations and I promise you, the band could be much better..... no I am not saying I could do it, I just know that if people were in charge that had half a brain about marching band, it could be better, and EVERYONE would like it.....Band is meant to be fun, not something that you hate going to. My friends in band HATE IT... but I will not speak for them. thats all I have right now.... I await your comments....and pardon my spelling...

What the [expletive] is BG teaching you current students? Is mass depression and negativity a 100 level course or something?

Cool, where did you herd them to? Did you do it on horseback or did you just run at them with arms flailing?

THAT'S an image! It would probably be akin to herding cats.

Thanks for the laugh out loud. Love ya, Jan.
