FMB - Good Luck in Cleveland This Weekend

As many of us "old-timers" were used to hearing around this time of the year: "Go Get 'Em, Tigers!"

This is a very busy first game weekend for the FMB, but I'm sure everyone will rise to the occasion and represent BGSU and the proud tradition of the FMB in style.

I just returned from the practice field [OK, I stayed in my car in the parking lot] and you guys sounded great.

Good luck this weekend - BEAT THE BADGERS!

I drove in for the concert at Tower City, and I must say ya'll sounded great!! As I told some of the euphs that I had lunch with, if ya'll look half as good as you sound you're going to have a great year. There were several times I got goosebumbs listening to the band. I'm sorry that I couldn't make Becksville last night and even more sorry that I can't make it for the Clash in Cleveland. Best of luck tonight, and all this season. Remember, even though it may be cold, wet, and generally yucky, The Sun Always Shines on the Falcon Marching Band!!!!

They do. The company front at the end of the Pirates piece was to die for. :D

There are of course a few fundies issues as of yet with the nugeyes (and probably a few vets too...), but in general they looked very sharp. It was pretty darn awesome.

I took it for a test drive last year. I kinda like it. Although I am finding the marching band withdrawl worse this year. Last it was something of a novelity, and now I'm starting to miss it. Then of course I have days like last week where I coud barely walk (changing weather+arthritis=bad) and it's not so bad.

I am definitely going through FMB withdrawl this year... Last year, although I did not march, I was still around the band. It was rough, but I could live vicariously through those still in the section, band, etc. Now, however, I'm miles away and am not even sure when I'll make it to a game! At the very least, I'll be at the Skull Session for the OSU game... but hopefully I'll make it to the Doyt at least once. Unfortunately, I can't go to Homecoming!!! :( This is one sad alumnus!

The band was and is fantastic, baby! Much better than the prancing pitchfork wah-wah band!

At first I was impressed with their drum major's style. However, upon closer inspection I discovered him to be twirling a baton and using the same exact trick over and over and over and over and over again. He was no DM, just a majorette.

As for the top stop marching; I am very fond of show bands and high stepping, if it weren't for the terrible sound and damage to embeschures (haha, check spelling, I'm too lazy) I would enjoy it.

I firmly believe we would have blown their minds had they had the class to stick around and watch us like we did for them.

You just said what the majority of the FMB people think!!

Also, to go along with what Niz said, the DM did in fact do the same thing over and over. The terrible sound was not caused by only the terrible marching deal (somehow some of those wisky marchers managed to march in cleats!! ) but also by the fact that they just blat and don't care how it sounds. As some of us Maggots have been saying lately, when you blat, you make Baby Jesus cry, and He was crying his eyes out after halftime!! For those that had the chance to see us perform in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, we definately shut those Wisky band members up. They started to talk smack as we were going through cadences, but once we actually started to play music, they just shut their mouths up pretty quick, which was actually pretty funny. To go along with that, I felt like I was degrated around the Wisconsin Band and Fans because I constantly felt that I was being looked down upon as being inferior, not cool, I don't know if any other FMB'ers felt that way at times.
Some of the Maggot Alum, well actually I'm sure all FMB'ers, alums or current, will enjoy this story as well. I passed a small group of Wisconsin Tuba players, one was complaining about his tuba being too heavy and was wondering why it was soo heavy. One of the other guys said, "Well it's because it's a 45lb Conn." Needless to say I found it funny because these guys are big guys and they are complaining about a 45 lb tuba. We have a small girl on our line (nothing against small women at all!!) who I have yet to hear complain about carrying around a tuba.
Anywho, those are a few small stories from the trip to Cleveland. Sorry about any ramblings seeing as how it's almost 3AM.

Great job tonight FMB!! While I couldn't hear to great, you looked amazing. I loved the tunnel sequence in pregame. The drill was amazing! So many pass throughs, the rotating boxes, and my personal favorite...the company front! It all looked terrific. I can't wait to hear and see the show next week because I know the music will add a lot.

The Wisky band was terrible. I don't like their style at all. I hate the splats, and the style of marching makes them look like Clydesdale horses. Their sound, while loud, was very poor and hurt my ears. And was there any melody during halftime? My body hurt after watching them perform because their step was so jerky. Additionally, I LOVE the look of music on the field, especially for pregame. I also hated the seperate ensemble that played in the stands for the band. What are they so good they have to show off? Or is it that the rest of the band is not good enough to play?

Humorous story related to me by a flicc: She overheard their twirler, excuse me, drum major tell the Wiscy band something along the lines of, "This is not Camp Randall Stadium. You will be booed. Now let's go out there and show these Bowling Green people what a real band." She said he was scary and very militaristic.

And I'm in FMB withdrawl too. I still fingered along to every song, marched in step, did all the cheers, danced to the cadences. I even yelled out the count sequences during pregame. And did I care that I looked like a fool? No, because I'm proud to say that I marched in the Falcon Marching Band!
