i would also like to say thanks to whoever made the Buffo sign possible....even though I didnt actually see or hear about it until the Monday after. will say that I was saddened by not seeing the traditional bag-o-tootsie-rolls on the tower...but oh well.
the memory of Buffo lives on in some of us....even if we never DID experience it.
BUFFO!!!

For those of us who never had the chance to experience the wonder that is BUFFO, could someone please fill us in on some background information? I get the whole idea of them and what they were, but what exactly did they do? What were the things they did that earned them this stigma they have around here?
Yeah right girl!

I know someone explained to me what BUFFO is awhile ago, but I don't remember now what it was. For those of us who are non-band people....please fill us in!!!The Niz wrote:For those of us who never had the chance to experience the wonder that is BUFFO, could someone please fill us in on some background information? "BG was relentless. It's like they know that a good first pass on the breakout from a defenseman will almost always result in an odd-man rush against them - but they go in anyway and dare you to make that pass. All three of their goals were just grit and effort. That's a team any fan can be proud to support...they give all they've got."

They were the spirit crew for the band. They dressed up in masks, flannel shirts, white gloves, old worn out jeans, and a black cape with their number on it. The night before a game, they would make an appearance and Chiefs house and hang out there for awhile. They would also hang signs around the music building in support of the band and always used the same tell tale script.
On game days, they would always be out at the pre game concert and would have a poem ready for Chief to read. The poem almost always would lead you to believe it was going to rhyme, then the word that you thought was coming would end up being something else that didn't fit. The 'poem' would always begin with 'hey there, hi there, ho there...it's Buffo time again..." and end with a big 'go get 'em tigers.'
They never spoke when in character and their identities were not revealed until the end of their senior year at the banquet. As I recall, there were 6 all together? Two from each class except freshmen I believe. There were also several people who were subs, which is how I got to be a part of it from time to time.
That's the basic idea. You really had to experience them to appreciate how big a part of the band experience they were.

Thanks for the explanation. They sound a lot like a band version of SIC SIC. They should bring them back. That kind of stuff is always a lot of fun!! Why did they go away?????

I do know this - at a band banquet just 2 years or so before my time, BUFFO gave a tasteless gift to one of the band grads, and she got very upset.Falcon Fanatic wrote:Thanks for the explanation. This I'm not sure on, but I've gotten the impression that it was a final straw of sorts for the current BUFFO group. I could be wrong on that.

Careful now...that's dangerous territoryThey sound a lot like a band version of SIC SIC.
One year, a group of Buffos put up a sign in the music building along with a game of 'clue' calling out one of the graduate assistants. That's how I was told the story, but I know the fine details are in question. That might not be 100% accurate, but it's the general idea.
At any rate, the entire organization was disbanded due to this one incident. I don't think anyone has ever argued that what they did was wrong and that they shouldn't have been punished. Disbanding them was just too much though.

I think your version is closer to what happened Saxy.
I do know it involved a game of 'clue' though.
Buffo was always fun loving, positive, and built up the band on game days. If the group that particular year was gaining a reputation for doing these kinds of things, then I agree that someone should have stepped in and stopped it. Still don't agree with canning the whole thing though.

I was at that banquet as a freshman. It had nothing to do with a movie, and everything to do with the game. And, more to the point, a comment made while giving the gift made for Buffo's demise.SaxyGirl85 wrote:i think the story we were told had something to do with the movie "clueless"...not the game of clue...but who really knows?able1 wrote:
