Show Idea

I start working 3rd shift next week, and I'm trying to adjust now, so if this seems really off the wall it's probably because of some sort of sleep deprivation.

Last night (ok, 5:30am) before I went to sleep I watched Voltron on Cartoon Network. Later that day at work I couldn't get the theme song out of my head, and got to thinking. Wouldn't an 80's cartoon show be sweet? Voltron, Transformers, G.I Joe, maybe a few bars of My Little Pony for laughs? I think if you get the right arrangements, and a good drill it would be a sweet show that the crowd would really enjoy.

I like it. You could throw in He-Man and She-Ra, the Smurfs, Jem and the Holograms, Inspector Gadget, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Sad thing is that most of the band will be freshman, and that class will have either been born in 1988 or 1989....barely enough to be considered 80s children. They'd probably rather see Power Rangers and Barney.

Oh God, don't tell me that. Now I'm starting to feel old.

Well, whats really wierd is that the Kindergarteners I teach were all born in the '00-'01 neighborhood. Ugh.

I was drum major in '89.

Don't y'all even talk about being old.

I really like the show idea, however.

What about 60's television shows? Think about all the great themes from these shows: Addams Family, Andy Griffith, Bewitched, Flipper, Dick Van Dyke Show, Gilligans Island, Gomer Pyle, Green Acres, Hogan's Heros, I Dream of Jeannie (who didn't?), The Munsters, Twilight Zone, et al.

i like both ideas...and i think most people would like it, like when we did the video game show a couple years ago. i guess it depends on what you were into as a kid....i agree w/cayla...smurfs, inspector gadget, and that kinda stuff would be great!

I'm still trying for an 80's ANYTHING show...we've been working on a Journey show since...freshman year! somehow, i doubt it's gonna happen.

there is a rumor mill about Pink Floyd this year though...could be interesting.

Floyd? Gads, I hope not. There are just some music groups and genre that you just don't want to touch.

Floyd is one such entity. It would be like have a Zeppelin show. GADS!

I agree. Bon Jovi fits that bill as well. But I could see somebody thinking Pink Floyd-nobody in their right mind would even think about doing BonJovi music. Yuck! :-D

Westerville North did a SWEET Floyd/The Wall show several years ago that they took to BOA. I never would have thought Floyd would work well for a marching band until I saw that show. Of course that's a good high school competition band who works on the same show all year long. Still, at least to me, that shows it's possible to pull it off and do it well.

I want to see the band march to Floyd's "Money." 7-4 would be pretty amusing to watch, although we did do a few bars of 5-4 in Mission Impossible.
