No BG on ESPN today!!!

Post by bgmaggot00 »

I don't know if I'm the only one that noticed, but watching the Women's game today, I heard the OSU band incessantly, while I only heard the BG band 2 or 3 times. WTF ESPN. Is it that hard to get mikes on both ends of the court? However, the times that I did hear you guys, it sounded great. Oh yeah, while I'm at it. How about a camera too. I think the BG band was shown up close once... for about a second. ARGH!

I noticed that as well. And I think that one second, if that, was because we were rather riled up about one of many bad calls by the refs. But for those of you in the Tourney Band, way to sound great guys!! (when we could hear you though)

I noticed that the OSU band was miked up as well. I heard from my family that watched that the BG end of the court was hardly shown at all. Looking up around the upper areas of the arena, though, there weren't really any cameras in position to get that part of the floor/stands.

I know the Delaware State band was miked, but when the BG band plaayed it didn't sound like the mikes were on. The mikes were on for both Vanderbilt and OSU's....but you guys sounded great! Have fun in East Lansing for the next two days!!

Found this on a women's BB forum, so here is the message. Please dont shoot the messanger

If someone from our Pep band is reading this forum - PLEASE have our Tubas polished up before Tuesday. They looked really " untaken care of " compared to the other bands there. Maybe they were busy celebrating St. Patrick's Day and didn't have the time.

I doubt highly that they even have a chance to see the sousaphones at all until five minutes before the game. The schedule for those guys is really tight. I will relay the message to some people who may get the message to someone who matters.
Yeah right girl!

Those tubas are the old tubas, which, according to the members in the band, sound better than the new ones. Not sure what you can do with it.

i can say something to them.... i dunno if they have anything, but as Niz said, we dont have to much time, the sousa's are under the bus, they pull them off, and we put them in room until we played... but maybe they can do something fast. i know they took older horn instead of the new ones, even though they were allowed, because they play better or something

Scaaaaaaryy...btw, you guys sounded awesome, even over the OSU band that was pretty much overblowing so much. I didn't know how good we sounded until I sat right across from you guys :)

As a current Maggot, the new horns do sound like crap even though they look great. The older horns however, even if you do try to polish them, clean them up whatever, won't really help them out. Many of the older sousaphones need to be re-done to get the shine back into them, both on the gold bell as well as the rest of the silver horn. Just sending that out there for those of you who feel the horns look like crap, it's not exactly in our power to fix that. From what I've heard, Dr. Hayward does want to get the horns re-done soon, so hopefully that means come fall for the SEBO grand opening day game, the tubas will look great!

It should be noted that the interior of the sousaphone bells (the old ones) are plated with a VERY thin layer of gold over a strike coat of silver. At some point, the soft gold wears off, and the silver shows.
Also, our horns don't look as shiny as some of the others because the balance of the horn is satin silver plated, meaning that it's sandblasted in the old instrument making tradition, giving the plating a texture rather than a bright appearance.
