RIP Ed Nickol

I don't know how many people who read this site knew him, but for those who might, Ed Nickol passed away Monday evening.

He had ties to BG, mainly through the Kelly's, who he knew well for many years.

He was the long time band director at Marion Local and built one heck of a program while he was there. In fact, I believe there was a collection of marches recorded years ago and the only US band involved in the project was his little high school band from Ohio.
He also taught at Brookville.

He was retired from teaching and had been working as a driving instructor as well as organizing and conducting the Ohio Valley British Brass Band. I got to know him from being in this band. He always got the most out of the talent he had to work with.

He became ill Monday night at rehearsal and was taken to the ER. He passed before they got him there.
He made a definite impression on everyone who met him.
If you knew Ed and have any serious interest in attending his services, PM me.

Very cool. I didn't realize you were in it. How long ago? I just joined them this year and I'm still in it now. There's a meeting tomorrow night to discuss the future of the band. We're hoping to keep it going.
Tad Stewart's been in it since about the beginning and still does alot of arranging for them. He was my high school director and invited me into the band when they had some openings. Of course Dan Zehringer is the trumpet prof at Wright State and he solos with the band from time to time.

I was in it when it first started, I think in 1990? I played flugelhorn. I was in it when Dan Z. sat in with us when he was stil in college (we had some fun times LOL!). I played several years, it was a lot of fun. I am so out of the loop, I didn't know Dan was the trumpet prof at Wright State...since when?

I hope you guys can keep the group going. I had some great times there.

I took your spot then. I'm playing flugel with them. I didn't realize the band had been around that long. You may not know many of the current members then. Buddy Law maybe?

I'm not sure exactly how long Dan has been at WSU. I think only a few years. He was at Wittenberg and Xavier before. I think he's still principal with the Cinci Ballet.

I can PM you his contact information if you want. I think he always likes to get in touch with old friends. He's just very very busy while school's in session. They're on winter break right now, so this might be a good time to reach him.
