Hockey Railing
So... what is the deal with the new wood railing that was built for the hockey band?

It's like someone decided to put up a fence around the bass/drums stand. It's WAAY too high and the posts are too close together...so it's basically like a zoo exhibit or mini-porch. I think it's higher than the actual railings of the rest of the arena. Makes it really hard for the drums/bass to communicate with the director.SaxyIrishTenor wrote:Can someone describe?
I'm sure whoever decided to put it up meant well, but it's really unnecessary.

This was what one of the drummers had to say about it...

Basically it just seems like it's a way to keep people from doing a little more work...and it just isn't cool!!So, there is a new railing/cage ~4ft high around the drum platform. OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Association, was worried about the gap between the front of the platform and the stairs in front of the platform. As I understand it, they were worried not about the drummers and myself, but about the people and children during the day who will potentially climb on it and fall off. Therefore, instead of moving the platform to a safer location (easily done by 2 people), flipping it on its side for times when it is not in use (would take 2 maybe 3 people), or storing it elsewhere, it was decided somewhere that a railing be constructed.
It is a beautifully crafted and well made solid railing that stands about 4 feet high on 3 sides of the platform. It acts more as a cage with vertical posts every other couple of inches. It will most definitely keep people who shouldn't be there in the first place from falling off.
