Hockey Railing

Post by Falcon Frenzy »

So... what is the deal with the new wood railing that was built for the hockey band?

I don't know for sure, but I can tell you that our bassist and drummers are not happy about it at all. Something about state regulations I think.

That sucks. It looked like the bassist and drummer were not as energetic as usual. I feel their energy is a big part of why the band is fun to watch during the basketball and hockey games.

It's like someone decided to put up a fence around the bass/drums stand. It's WAAY too high and the posts are too close together...so it's basically like a zoo exhibit or mini-porch. I think it's higher than the actual railings of the rest of the arena. Makes it really hard for the drums/bass to communicate with the director.

I'm sure whoever decided to put it up meant well, but it's really unnecessary.

This was what one of the drummers had to say about it...
So, there is a new railing/cage ~4ft high around the drum platform. OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Association, was worried about the gap between the front of the platform and the stairs in front of the platform. As I understand it, they were worried not about the drummers and myself, but about the people and children during the day who will potentially climb on it and fall off. Therefore, instead of moving the platform to a safer location (easily done by 2 people), flipping it on its side for times when it is not in use (would take 2 maybe 3 people), or storing it elsewhere, it was decided somewhere that a railing be constructed.

It is a beautifully crafted and well made solid railing that stands about 4 feet high on 3 sides of the platform. It acts more as a cage with vertical posts every other couple of inches. It will most definitely keep people who shouldn't be there in the first place from falling off.
Basically it just seems like it's a way to keep people from doing a little more work...and it just isn't cool!!

Apparently the truth about drummers has been leaked to the general public and caused quite a scare.

I have heard that it was due to safety regulations. Lame...they must have never met any drummers...safety is out of the question.
