DCI at the Doyt!!

Post by jg4242 »

The 2010 DCI season will be kicking off in style this year, with the Glassmen All-Star Review at our very own Doyt L. Perry Stadium! It's June 24th, time TBA. Check out the DCI website for more details, or to order your tickets! Also, the show will feature members of the FMB performing the Star Spangled Banner before the show, so come out and support the band, too!

This is awesome! If you've never been to a DCI event, they are SO much fun!! Great music, wonderful pageantry, even if you're not a band-o, it's worth checking out!

Not that i'm complaining, but does anyone know why this event isn't being held up at UT like it usually is? I haven't heard of any renovations to the Glass Bowl.

Anyway, IT'S ABOUT TIME!!!!! We have a great facility for this kind of event. I've wondered why we haven't hosted an OMEA competition or BOA regional at BGSU. Eastern Michigan hosts a BOA regional and there is one up at the Silverdome for God's sake. If those two facilities (cough, cough) can host then why not BGSU? This would be a great event to expose the Falcon Marching Band, College of Musical Arts, and the University to prospective students. I would imagine the FMB could even make some money to for their operating budget as well.

I may have to alter my plans for the Men's Chorus alumni event that weekend and come in a day early.

The parking lots will give them a real nice first impression.........that is if they can find their way out of them to the stadium!!!!!!!!!! They might want to have some helicopters and search dog teams available to find those lost in there!

I've been told that the show was put at the Doyt, because UT had a scheduling conflict. I'm very exciting for Thursday's show because of the parking lots, in fact. I hate how at some shows, the groups run off and hide down in some random ravine to warm up. Haha Everyone will be visible, so I can find all the lot performances! :D Unless they hide with in the campus. :(

Luckily, Honeycutt - you know campus pretty well. ;o) Your best bet, other than the CMA, would be Eppler or the field house for a warm-up, I would think.

I'd have to think the field house and the band practice fields would be used - that way they have a place to warm-up which is far enough away so they don't interfere with another show but close enough so it's not a 15-20 minute march-over to the stadium

Well...how was it? I ended up not going, so wondered what others thought of it that were able to attend.

It was FANTASTIC!! Bluecoats won, Phantom came in second (although I thought Phantom had the better show). The acoustics were great, the crowd was sizable and responsive, and the FMB had numerous representatives. It was kind of funny to see some of our members get recruited by corps looking to fill holes :)

My other thought on the whole affair was how surreal it was to see someone else marching on that field... I'm so used to being out on it that seeing other groups out there was a little... weird! Still, a great opportunity to showcase our program, the stadium, and the University. :supz:
