From what I understand, the FMB is over 300 this year which is way too big IMO. In fact, Hayward had to order more uniforms. Good thing the first home game isn't until Sept.

Fundies week is going well from what I hear. I've watched a couple rehearsals. Pre-game has been changed somewhat and re-expanded to allow for more people. They're doing a modified version of Nowlin's "Fanfare: Sounds of the Centennial" that he wrote for Wind Symph last semester as well as his concert band version of the Alma Mater (re-arranged).

Shows are:
Bohemian Rhapsody (all that has changed from '04 is the drum break - everything else is the same)
Excerpts from Firebird Suite
Journey
Green Day

not looking forward to the last one at all... might have been mildly ok if it was not the last show of the season...

yeah. I was at the fields on tuesday when the vets marched over and played for the nugeyes and couldn't believe how good the vets sounded when they played the usual "welcome songs" (Fanfare/Foward Falcons, Aye-Zig, and Go BG!) It was pretty awesome!

For the record, our official count is 275 marchers. Also, Dr. Hayward said that more uniforms were being ordered not because we didn't have enough, but so that we have a better chance of having proper sizes for everyone.

Wow, that's a huge band! Really looking forward to seeing/hearing them this year. The shows should be pretty good too. Quite intrigued about the Green Day one. I loved playing Bohemian Rhapsody back in 2004, especially at Tol*do... we blew their band out of the water. ;-)

Isn't some of Green Day's music being used in a new musical?? That may be where the idea came from. For me, 275 is a good number as long as there is still "Tiger rank" to allow for some competition for performance spots. Usually I am against rearrangements of schools songs (DePue Alma Mater anyone...) but if Ryan did I am sure it will be amazing.

i've seen the DePue alma mater, so i know what you're talking about.
the Nowlin Alma Mater is very pretty and very well written for a concert band.
....that being said, the FMB is not a concert band, even with our symphonic sound. I think that it is very oddly scored at some parts (having seen the score) and takes out a few parts that are the 'traditional AM sound'. I do like the addition of the intro to let people get used to the key and then sing it, as well as slight differences between what used to be the repeated measures.

Also the break strain and tag for the fight song are very interesting. These were actually written by the guy who wrote the original FS in the '50s.

The Green Day show was indeed fashioned after the musical.
Official count is now actually 273 (we've had a few that after getting into classes discovered that FMB was too much with their schedule and thus had to choose)
should be a good year

I, too, can't wait for homecoming. I've heard of some "adjustments" of varying degrees of severity which lends a great deal of excitement to the Buffalo game.

Ahhhhhh! Entry and fanfare blown into the bowl and downfield bouncing off of Sebo! IMAGINE!

I do have to say that hearing the FMB practice when I come to my class at the CMA, which is a co-requisite with student teaching, makes me miss FMB immensely... Sad day... :(
For the first time in my life, I will be a spectator at a football game. I'm not sure what to do

A suggestion is to watch the game and enjoy the halftime and pregame shows. BUt I'm just speaking from experience.
