I had the fun job today of counting the nugeyes. We had 125 show up for today's auditions! I say that's not bad at all...

I dunno about that! The saxes probably have the biggest incoming group but they were one of the smallest groups last year. There is actually so many maggots that some will have to be cut. We only have 16 tubas so the best 16 will be staying and a few will have to leave. The drumline is going to have 5 tenors, 9 snares, and 6 bass drums (I don't know how many cymbols yet). The biggest section in the band should still be the trumpets. All of the other sections are close to the same in size. We will definately be a balanced group between the instruments so I think it will be a great year! All of us vets start tomorrow so band will officially be starting!

Met all the nugeye saxes last night and now I can't remember their names! There are just too many!

As for the idea that there are never too many maggots, and that two rows of maggots just look fantastic, I just thought of me marching over some little white bugs.

It'll be my 4th year in the fmb and I still can't get over that image.

But the look of a full maggot row in the stands is just awesome. I dont think I've seen a full maggot row while being here. I do remember my freshmen year when we had a heckofalot of maggots, and how I was amazed at how many we had, so it'll bring tears back into my eyes when i see that once again.

That is friggin awesome. I wonder how long it will be before they buy some more instruments and make the band a bit bigger??? With all those music majors, the talent pool has to be pretty huge

And Besides, only 16 sousaphones??? C'mon. You can never have too many maggots!!!!

As for tons of woodwinds... seems to be true.... we have 29 fliccs this year! The coolest thing is that over half of 'em are vets, so you know Dr Hayward must be doing something right if so many of us wanted to return!

So how many of you alumni are coming to our lovely kickoff new-uniform concert?

When is this concert? Is this the one where the football team opens for you?

I was in the band to be a band director, so my weekends are a little busy with my band, but I would love to go.

125 'newguys' is awesome. I don't remember a year from my time on up to now when we had that many. With the grad assistant coming back as an assistant director, it looks like the foundation is set for a great season and future.

BTW- What is the current setup as far as the directors go? Carol just directs the FMB and A-band, or does she have other responsibilities as well?

Until recently, it was always.... Director of bands, who oversaw the whole program, including the FMB. Then there was the assistant director of bands who ran the FMB, A-band, spring concert band, and a few other ensembles as well as tought a few classes. The assistant had help with the FMB from two grads and Kathy S. Wilson.

So starting last year, it's Director of bands, marching band director, assistant FMB director, grads, and someone else directs the indoor ensembles? Just trying to keep up and get things straight.

Also, any word on show themes yet?

I think we are having the "Patriotic" show, which is something you guys knew already, and I think she said something about a Bohemian Rhapsody show. Haven't been really keeping up with what themes we'll have this week, so I'll check it out tomorrow and let you know if no one else replies to it.

Yah, cramming 235, or however many people, into Kelly Hall was awesome! The sound was so incredible! And the saxes sounded awesome.

Mmmm.... sax..... 8)

Oh, as for other ensembles Dr. Hayward is conducting, she is conducting Concert Band and the new incoming professor to replace Dr. Toney is conducting uni-band. No word yet if she will do A-band I suppose.
