Who arranged the version the FMB plays??

The trumpet part at the end (Oh say does that star spangled banner yet wave...) gives me goosebumps every single time I hear it, since before I was in band, when I WAS in band, and to this day.... it's fantastic!! I think the U of M band plays the same arrangement.

I have a folder full of "borrowed" music from A-band (actually 4 folders... shhhh) but I'm too lazy to find them and see who arranged it. Anyone know? It wasn't Lou Marini in this instance, I don't believe...

Well, I have a folder full of unborrowed music from marching band (I offered to turn it back in and just received shrugs in return). I think they use the same arrangement, no?

Unfortunately, whoever arranged it doesn't seem to have their name on it. I suppose it could just be my part. Anyone else's part (that they didn't turn in ) more considerate in acknowledging the arranger?

I think Marini did our arrangment, but I'm not totally sure. It would make sense though, he arranged everything else from Pregame.

According to the program from Sounds of the Stadium, the arranger is in fact Lou Marini.

i play the trumpet fanfare at the end you're talking about and i'm not sure who arranged it. it's actually not on any of our music. i learned it in high school then when i came here, some of the firsts were playing it as well (in a different key ofcourse) so i learned this version and have been playing it ever since. so as far as i know... anyone could have arranged it. we just memorize it and pass it down to the younger players from year to year...

My guess is that Lou Marini arranged it, and borrowed the trumpet fanfare from someone/somewhere else. Either that, or someone just decided to edit the fanfare into Marini's arrangement. Either way though, the credit for the fanfare probably does not belong to Marini.

I'm also pretty sure that the idea for the fanfare was not originally Marini's... that is unless it's popularity reached the west coast in the 80's. When I was in jr. high band in Arizona, we played an arrangement with the exact same fanfare and in the same key.
I suppose it could still be possible that the idea was his, but I doubt it.

I would be interested in trying to find out where it did start though. I'll try to see what I can find. I doubt that I will have much luck, but you never know.

it's not a marini arrangment. as former band librarian, i can tell you that it's "henry fillmore's trumpeting arrangement of the star spangled banner." some of the parts even say that on the top.
and, as a current employee of rettig music, i can tell you that it's permanently out of print.

Actually, I don't think the band uses the Fillmore arrangement for the Star Spangled Banner anymore. The parts for it (the ones we use now) look like they are written on Finale, as most of the Marini arrangements are (obviously edited by someone since Finale didn't exist when Marini was around). The trumpet fanfare is not even in the music anywhere. I think we switched arrangements after the 2002 season because the fanfare was in the parts that year. A few of us just know the fanfare from the old arrangement, and we play it from memory.

Oh, I will keep pushing it. Me and a couple of other people play it right now, and I have already taught it to a freshman so when I am gone, he can keep it going, and hopefully teach it to someone himself before he is gone.

Yeah, the trumpet player part is awesome.

I so like the bone cord, too. That's so good, I actually have to go down on that cord.
