This isn't band but it is music related. For those of you who live in the Cleveland area, the BGSU Gamelon, Kusuma Sari, will be performing at the John Patrick Theatre on the Campus of Baldwin Wallace tonight. I want to say that the concert is at 7, could be at 8 I can't remember. If you are interested in the music from Bali (Indonesia) then come out to what is sure to be a wonderful performance.

(There are a couple of members from the marching band in the ensemble, so in a way it's sorta like a band concert...maybe?? no?? Oh well you should come anyways )

Can I join the club? I've pitched hay, and collected eggs from a chicken coop, and spent all night trying to get a baby lamb to nurse instead of doing my 11th grade math homework.

Does living in a town of 6,000, 2 blocks from a Stockyard, and being the ONLY city east of the Mississippi, to have 6,000 residents and 2 stockyard 4 blocks fromt eh center of town, and next to the HS, count as hick? I mean, my friends drove tractors to school.

Gamelon? Isn't that one of those groups where they bang on different sizes and shapes of kettles and call them funny names like kapongs, and bajangs, and stuff like that?


Gamelon is far more complex than it might seem to those not trained in it. Thats true of pretty much all music, but I think it's especially true in this case. I was never in the ensemble, but did take the class. I admire those who take the time to actually be in the ensemble and to learn a style that is completely different than anything we westerners are used to.

This semester was my first in the ensemble, and I really had a lot of fun. It was interesting dealing with different style of music, different instruments, and a different tuning system. It was a really good learning experience, and something I'd like to be able to do agian.


And I think you'ens qualify as hicks too!!
