Hey FliccGirl, was it you?

Post by 1987alum »

So Noah & I are listening to tracks from the FMB's 2004 recording and Forward Falcons comes on. Once it's done, Noah asks to put the "old" disc in (Pride) and play FF. I oblige, of course. Then he wants to the 2004 recording in again, again playing FF.

When I asked him why he had me juggling CDs, he said, "Don't you think the 'new' Forward Falcons sounds different?" My wife is the trained musician in the family so I respond with a "I guess so."

"Yeah," he says. "It's definitely different. I think it sounds better, don't you?"

Like I have any chance is such a debate.

"I think it's the flute part, don't you, Dad? Maybe it's that girl from the Falcon Marching Band, the one we met at the party (pep rally) the night before the game, the one where we saw the tugboat and the fireworks? Maybe it was her playing louder."

Could be, I guess.

"We'll have to tell her she did a good job when we go out to Bowling Green this year."

So, FliccGirl, just in case we don't run into you in October, good job!

:D

87alum, your son is ONE smart little boy.

The fact that he picked up on the difference that quickly, and easily, says that his mom is teaching him well, and he may well turn out to be a BRILLIANT musician. Hopefully, he'll realize that he is too good for BG, and go somewhere else...

I shudder at the thought of at least one of those other Ohio schools.

DID I SAY OHIO? No, I hate OU.  I dunno... CCM is pretty DARN good. 2nd in the country? Something on that order, and that puts him within spittin' distance of Oxford. So, he could do his undergrad at the Best Public university in Ohio.(And I have numbers and statistics on MY side. MUAHAHAHA. :butthead: )

In all seriousness, Noah sounds like a BG fanatic, if he decided to go to another school, I WOULD BE HEARTBROKEN! And I have NEVER met any of you!

Cleveland Institute of Music, Oberlin Conservatory, Cincinnati Conservatory (in that order), and Youngstown State for jazz.

If he were to go performance. But if he wants a JOB after graduating then he may want to just MINOR in performance.

Rightupinthere: My wife knows that all too well. She wanted to get her degree in performance but her father wisely guided her to get a Music Ed. degree. While doing that as an undergrad, she did extra piano study at Julliard and voice study at the Manhattan School of Music. Then she did her first masters in Music Therapy. Performance seems like a great idea, until you look at the practical matter of finding a job.

Noah's picking up the piano pretty well and, thank God, he has his mother's voice. Not sure where music will fit over the long haul, but he'll have the language, as my wife likes to say. What he does with it will be up to him.

Right now, he wants to be a NASCAR driver and run a candy store on the side.

that's what i'm thinking of doing my masters in...i'd love to do it as an undergrad, but i love it here too much to leave...even if it means sacrificing what i really want. i'm a speech-language pathology major w/a minor in music now...so i can tie all that together in a music therapy masters...i think. would your wife happen to have any pointers on places to go or things i could do in the meantime to prepare? I'd be much appreciative! :D

Man, you must be freshman, Your showing about as much intelligence has an unamed nemesis  . Statistics can be used to "prove" anything. Second note, from what I hear, Miami is seriously considering charging everyone out-of-state tuition. No-way is an education from J-crew U worth +15K a year. The only time I would pay that much or more (today's dollars, don't even want to think about what it is going to cost for my kids) for an education is if I was at a truly better school. Harvard, Yale, Standord etc.

Sorry to crash a band forum with non-music related thoughts, casually using statistics gets me worked up.

PGY, Miami already DOES charge the same for ALL students. Technically.(Ohio residents get two scholarships that add up to about 10,000) They are also working to COMPLETELY eliminate tuition for all students as well.

Wow, I was kidding around.... . Just casually tossing something out there for you to chew on  . Secondly, OU IS our biggest in conference rival. But BG is mixing it up abit.

BACK to Noah.

Saxy: I'll be glad to ask her about that ... I know her first bit of wisdom would be - don't expect to get paid a lot. Creative Arts Therapy is a great field with many rewards, but most are not of the financial kind. I'll get more detail from her! :D
