Our high school marching band fundamentals was a summer class that they paid $125 to attend and there was no academic credit awarded. It went for like 6 weeks (8:30 AM -10:45 AM). No one complained about not receiving any credit for it either.
There was another set of rehearsals for the July 4 parade that all members of the band were expected to march in. Some juniors and seniors would not participate in the fundamentals class during the summer, but the band director required them to marchin the July 4 parade. Those parade practices were Mondays and Wednesday evenings 5:30 - 8:00 PM and began the Monday AFTER school let out in June. Nothing but 6-to-5 marching and playing, continuously marching around the rear parking lot.
