Hey, I just want to let everyone know that at the KKPsi/TBS National Convention here in Lexington, KY that a few of us participated in Friday night's fight song competition. With about 30-40 schools participating, we assembled a consort of one tuba, two trumpets, a hotel-owned garbage can drum, and four "singers" to go through Fanfare/Forward Falcons and FIVE rounds of Ay-Zig.

While we didn't win, we did get honourable mention for "Musical Achievment." The judges were quite impressed by our use of dynamics. We also had quite the rousing response from the crowd. Anyway, the final results were as follows:

3. University of Arkansas
2. Oklahoma State University
1. Syracuse University

Alright, thats all from Lexington, Jeff

Can I applaud too? How cool is that, I'll bet there was no one there singing for my band, or playing for that matter....

I am a KKPsi reject at Miami, but I got the last laugh! They offered like 6 or 8 bids, had 4 take them, and then only had 3 actually go through with rushing! HAHA, guess they shouldn't have rejected the other 12 of us!

I hate to be "that guy" and I hate even more to defend people from Miami, but they are my brothers, so...if they only gave out 6 or 8 bids, then they must have felt that only those 6 or 8 people were ready to take a shot at the membership process. It's not an easy one, and it's an honor to be chosen to serve. Most chapters go for quality over quantity- better to have 3 very active brothers than 12 not-so-active ones. (I'm not at all saying you're not quality Bando!)

That being said, give it another shot! Show them you really want to give back to the band and I'm sure they'll offer you a bid. If not, try TBS

I know them all, and they are good people. Well, except for the ones that didn't decide to rip the people that weren't extended a bid. That's why I am/was a little bitter, and got upset, but at first I really didn't mind.
If I do try to rush a band organization it will be TBS. I am better friends, at this point, with more people in TBS. I really wasn't trying to rip on them(KKPsi, that is). They were trying to make their class a better quality class, and I understand that, but if only 18 people even show up, and TBS has like 30-40 or more show up to the final rush meeting before bids, I would think that would tell you something. I'm really not bitter. I could careless. I just found it slightly amusing that a few complained to me about it.(I laughed on the inside. Heartily.)

Shouldn't it be sisters if you are in TBS?

Membership processes can go totally wrong, it's true. They definitely shouldn't have been putting down any potential candidates that didn't make it in. It happens, unfortunately. And it's the brothers, what can you expect?

I would absolutely encourage you to pursue TBS! It's probably the best thing I ever did while I was in college. I met some of my very best friends through TBS and even though I've graduated, I can still go to conventions and things and meet new sisters and brothers. You get to have a ton of fun, all while serving the band. It's a fantastic organization :D
