Questions

Post by Onewarder »

1. Did the band recieve a large sum of $$$ from somewhere? If so, what are they planning on doing with it?

2. Are Jeff and Justine the only graduate assistants this year?

3. Any word on the shows besides Wicked and the video game show?

4. Are Ryan and Jason still composing and writing drill for the FMB, or are they done? I know Ryan did Wicked, is he doing everything else?

#1. From what was posted on here earlier, the University gave the Band a fairly decent sized loan which is being used to cover the cost of some new Sousaphones, Euphs, Mellos, and Tenor Saxes.

#2. There's another grad asst. this year. I met him today but didn't get the name. He's a trumpet player from James Madison U.

#3. There's going to be a "Modern Broadway" show which will include Wicked. In addition, there will be a hip-hop show, and "The Incredibles" show for family weekend. The video game show is on the backburner currently as they could not obtain the correct rights to the copyrighted music. Therefore, the fourth show of the year is still in limbo.

#4. I'm pretty sure that Ryan is writing all of the music for this year, however, Jason is not writing the drill. Jeff is doing the drill for at least two of the shows, and the other two are still up in the air.

Hope this helps, Jeff

We played DaButt back in 1988. Why not?

We danced to it. It was first time the pelvic thrust was utilized by the FMB. It was tasteful and no directed towards the audience.

We got quite a rousing applause from the student body.

It was also one of the most difficult dance routines I've performed as a member of the FMB. CURSE YOU PATRICK Q. PEARSON!!! (Q stands for Quality).

Don't be scurred.

As for the hip-hop show, it'll go to one of two extremes; it'll either be awesome, or horrible. I really can't see this show being just average. Thats all, jeff

Awesome or horrible...the crowd will get into it!

I agree that if the FMB does a hip-hop show, it will be either awesome or very horrible. The FMB has traditionally not attempted shows with a hip hop theme because it hasn't reflected the FMB's personallity. The FMB is known for it's symphonic sound and playing more "conservitive" music.
Of course there are always exceptions to the rule...Annie? are you ok? are you ok Annie? How much does J Lo's love cost? You get my point. If my memory is correct, those shows weren't exactly the cream of the crop.
If the show is done, and done well, it could do several things:
1. The student body may actually respond to something the band plays
2. If everyone likes the hip-hop stuff, they may expect more shows like this, and is this something that the FMB needs to be doing all the time?
If the show is done horribly, then it could hurt the reputation of the FMB even more so than the typical "bad show/performance" of other types of music. College students are familiar with hip-hop more than most other forms of music (there are exceptions), so they will be very critical of the bands performance.

I'm sure it will be great. Of course, I'd rather hear a Monkey's Medley or something to do with the 80s, but I'm an old fart. Well, as of tomorrow I'll be an old fart...
