I can't wait to start learning drill for the second show... as most of the music is written in either 5/4 or 3/4...

But. In all seriousness... the music is awesome, for both shows so far. :D

How about them? They kick major butt. I am goi9ng to love the tempo and the marching. THIS is one thing that differentiates the great marching bands from the mediocre ones. A quick tempo(206 in the closer) and mixed metre...this should exhilerating.
I like Ryan Nowlin's note at the end " Still alive?"

I'd love to! Post them here, or better yet get me ahold of some drill charts, eh?

Doc H is the one doing the drill for the first show, which is the only one we have charts for so far. Right?

A few entertaining comments in the charts:
Chart 24: "hang on... things are going to get tight!!"
Chart 26: "Good Luck to you ALL!"
Chart 28: "Everybody but trumpets... 29 does not exist for you!!!"
Chart 34: "CONGRATULATIONS! BUT, YOU WILL SAVE THE PRINCESS LATER THIS SEASON..."
(in the video game show, I presume. buh-dum cshh. lol)

I like the comments in the closer of the Incredibles music just as much as those...
"Good luck!" (by the tempo marking)
"Cook it!!" (when the tempo picks up more)
"BRING IT!!" (at 141... scary marching band ending)
and then the "still alive?" at the end.

Sivill's the one who puts absolutely hilarious comments in the drill charts. Anyone see the Bohemian charts last year? LCore showed 'em to me... I wrote them down, I may have to post them later.

For all who are interested...Emily, Lexie, Lauren, Aja, Laura DeLucia, Jade and I have all officially mastered the art of staying on step in 5/4 time. We can set up a class if you'd like. Sign ups on the band board!

For those scratching their heads in the dark... we all decided that the best way would be to march Left-right-left-right-left-- Left-right-left-right-left...

The part with two lefts in a row has to be a perfect 22 1/2 inch hop.

Once you realize that your left foot won't always be a down beat, there isn't anything to it. Honestly, I think ya'll are over-analizying and over-thinking the entire deal.

I second this motion. Just go left right, etc. like Emily said, and I have a feeling that you'll be ok. 5/4 and 3/4 shouldn't be a problem at all. If it were 3/8, 5/8, 7/8 etc, then I'd give you an excuse to complain, Jeff

For the fun of it, I found my list of the comments Jason Sivill put in the Bohemian charts last year. Here ya go:

-"MARCH LIKE THE WIND for 16 counts"

-"All others MARCH for 32 counts except Percs who play the wicked looking solo. Nice work Mr S!"

-"Bari/Tenor circle play ring-around-the-rosie for 32 counts while the rosies (flags) dosie-doe for 32 counts."

-"Sorry, I couldn't think of anything else!"

-"You seriously need a count-killer but NOT the hokey-pokey this time!"

-"HALT for 24 counts and fry the audience with phat sound!"

-"ADJUST THE FORM... well, you probably won't need to because it will be so clean."

-"Yes you'll need to MARCH a RALL... it's easy!"

-"HALT for 16 counts and play sweetly while Freddie Mercury (aka Aaron Backes) moves to center stage."

-"Then SUCK IN THE SKY AND BLOW OUT THE STARS AS YOU HALT FOR THE LAST 20 COUNTS."

My favorite was his little rant on chart 33:

"On a related subject... Would you like to know how difficult it is to 'magically' make Aaron appear on the 50 at that particular moment? Well, I'd like to tell you. But not now. Another time perhaps... but... just know that that type of staging seems easy but is really rather difficult, so much so that I danced gleefully around my office when it worked, and then called Mr Nowlin who graciously neutralized... sorry, was I rambling? I'm not bitter... I'm not bitter... I'm not bitter..."

I gotta admit, I miss that guy....

Reading this thread is like walking into a calculus symposium ... it all sounds fascinating, but it doesn't make one bit of sense to me!

You guys kill me. :P
