In what year would you say BGSU's marching band was best?

I remember a 1986 or 87 it may have been 1985 Band that seemed to be very very exceptional, wiht an outlandish drum major who was very good if not the best I had ever seen/heard.

As a member of the band from 2001-2004 I can say that it wasnt any of those years...thats for sure!!! And it sure isnt now....I would have to say that it want under Mark Kelly....but I cant give you a year for sure!

87 was an exceptional year. I didn't march that year, but the trumpet section was other-worldly. The Disney showed they performed still sends shivers.

The drum major you are speaking of was either Pat Pierson or Scott? Zimmerman.

In my years I would have to put the 91 band as the best - but I don't know if we were better than the mid to early 80's groups.

i'd have to say the '97 season when the bands main show was star wars and they went to penn state.

Yes, but that show was a pain in the a$$ to march because we had to march with straight mutes wired up in our sleeves for the one tune. I think the performance was the only time I didn't drop it on the field...went through like 3 smashed/stepped on mutes that season.

I remember that. I recall saying to the person with whom I went to the game, "where the hell did the mutes come from?"

Great show. Still gives me goosebumps.

That's OK, most of the band acted like we were three years old back then

I thought I would chime in here. 1987 was a truly great year. I think the band was pretty good in 1989 also. I remember the Disney show of 87 VERY well. In fact I am hoping to put it on the Football Field in Virginia this coming fall. In 89 I remember "since I fell for you." I loved that opener. What a great trumpet solo.

The current....lets be the next TBDBITL era has not proved so wonderful.....but I dont blame the students!

Nothing against people who hate OSU, but we don't compare to that band at this point. They are true showmen who go out and give a hundred and ten percent every time they put on the uniform or attend rehearsals. They have their faults just like any band, and so do we. Don't get me wrong I love the FMB with all my heart, but TBDBITL puts us to shame. The attitudes in the FMB are always great in the beginning of the year and terrible by the third or fourth game.

As far as the best years for the FMB goes I really have no idea. From what my former band director Mike Allen told me all of the early 90's were pretty intense though. I'll never forget what he told me. "...the band always screwed around A LOT, but as soon as we stepped on the field the intesity and seriousness was astounding..."

Hopefully you only mean in terms of attitudes. If not, this is going to turn into an argument thread.
