If you guys are talking about the difference between "@bgnet.bgsu.edu" and "@bgsu.edu" I believe the "bgnet" suffix was dropped as necessary last year, but the "bgnet" part is still acceptable.

I believe he used the words "Internet gurus".

Yes, the 'bgnet' can be dropped from BGSU e-mail addresses. It is safe to address something @bgsu.edu
