Actually from what my viewpoint of reading that, it seems like yes, the city plans on tearing out trees, but the city also plans on replanting said trees as well as planting more trees as well as different varieties of trees.

I was on campus again today walking around after the spring football game, and you are right, that area in very bare right now. As we were standing there, there was another couple that walked past us and I overheard the guy questioning the women with him about why they would be clearing this part of campus out like this and that it looked terrible now. Hopefully they will replant this area and soon.

Looks like some trees are going back in where they were removed. Very nice to see.
